US Mint Sales: Clads Over 1M, Lincoln Cent Proof Sets Top 100K, UHRs Pass 90K

US Mint Sales Figures Image US Mint coin sales increased across the board, except for a few gold coin and roll stragglers that fell behind their previous pace. Proof sets and silver coins shined the brightest. And a couple of notable barriers were smashed to rubble.

Several sales highlights follow:

  • 2009 Lincoln Cent Proof Sets hurdled over the 100 thousand mark with less than two weeks on the sales block. Between their launch on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 6, a total of 101,758 were scooped up by collectors. 35,408 more were sold since the last report.

  • UHR $20 Double Eagles couldn’t surpass their prior weekly performance which was the highest in months with 4,110 new sales. But they did leap over 90,000 and added another 2,979. Coin dealers may have liked the new 25-coin order limit, but the recent UHR $50 price increase looks to have been a detraction. The gold piece was one of the few coins to show slippage this week.

  • As we predicted last week in a pure common sense call, the 18-coin clad 2009 Proof Sets passed 1 million. Numbers jumped an eye-brow raising 27,913 versus the prior 18,448.

  • First Spouse Gold Coins are never really screaming in sales (which could be delightful to collectors of the coins down the road…), but all but the Julia Tyler uncirculated option improved over the prior week. The inaugural Sarah Polk proof and uncirculated sales figures came in at 1,684 and 921, respectively.

  • Lincoln Professional Life two-roll sets ran slightly slower. 13,108 were added compared to the prior 14,319. The sets passed a speed bump as well, however, rising to a new 204,472.

  • On a sister site to CoinNews we had just commented on how proof Braille Silver Dollars seemed to have found a comfort zone with weekly gains in the mid 600 range. That logic is now warped with their newest increase of 1,124.

  • Sarah Polk First Spouse Gold Coin Inaugural Sales – FirstSpouseCoins.us
Sarah Polk First Spouse Coin sales began last Thursday afternoon, and in only a few days, it was the most popular spouse coin for the week. Sarah Polk’s proof version reached 1,684 and the uncirculated made it to 921. The price of gold has been at its highest level since …

  • Silver Coins Sales Rise, Eagles Top 19 Million – SilverCoinsToday.com
US Mint collector silver coins and set sales picked up nicely, no doubt helped by recent soaring silver prices. Bullion Silver Eagles settled down some from their roaring pace last week, but they are still on fire. As has become the tradition of late, 2009 Silver Proof Sets lead, with another 16,278 sold. In contrast, 12,852 were purchased by collectors during the prior reporting period. 30,000 more and the sets will topple 500,000. Not bad considering …
  • Lincoln Penny Proof Sets Pass Milestone – 2009LincolnPennies.com
2009 Lincoln Cent sales increased across all but one offering while the proof set containing just the four new pennies surpassed a new milestone. The loser in the Lincoln product mix, at least from a comparative standpoint, was the Professional Life Two Roll Sets. 13,108 more were purchased from the US Mint, down from the 14,319 reported last week. However, the two-roll sets jumped over 200K to 204,472 …

The non bullion coin sales figures above have an "as of date" of Sept. 6. The last reported sales figures are located at Lincoln Proof Sets Top 66K, Clad Proofs Near 1 Million.

In silver bullion news that will impact sales next year, the US Mint recently announced the national park and national site list for the new US Mint America the Beautiful Quarters for release between 2010 to 2021. What many don’t realize is that the law authorizing the 56 quarters also mandates 5-oz, .999 fine silver coin bullion versions. How many collector/investors will purchase these instead of the Eagles?
