Gold Rises to Fresh Six-Week High, Silver Advances
Legislation Proposed to Place Ronald Reagan on the $50 Bill
A newly introduced House Resolution, if passed, would replace President Ulysses S. Grant's portrait on the $50 bill with an image of President Ronald Reagan.
The President Ronald Reagan $50 Bill Act, numbered H.R. 4705, was introduced by Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) on February 25, 2010.
"Every generation needs its own heroes. One decade into the 21st century, it's time to honor the last great president of the 20th and give President Reagan a place beside Presidents Roosevelt and Kennedy," said Congressman McHenry. "President Reagan was a modern day statesman, whose presidency transformed our nation's political and economic thinking."
President Roosevelt is featured on the dime and President Kennedy on the half-dollar.

American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar Sales Near 100K in...
The latest United States Mint weekly sales report is out and the numbers reveal collectors purchased a solid 98,358 of the just released American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars in three days.
The first of two commemorative silver dollars to be issued this year was made available by the US Mint on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at noon Eastern Time. The coins pay tribute to Americans who became disabled for life while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper dollars are struck in both proof and uncirculated condition and are available for introductory prices of $39.95 and $33.95, respectively.
As is nearly always the case, collectors preferred the proofs -- this time by a more than two-to-one margin in the early going with 66,209 proof silver $1s purchased. On the flip side, 32,149 uncirculated coins were ordered. The time frame for the reported figures was from Thursday to Sunday.

US Mint Ships 84,000 Gold Eagles in February, 2010 – Fifth...
The latest United States Mint bullion coin sales figures have been released and the stats show authorized buyers purchased 84,000 American Eagle Gold coins during February 2010, which was 1,000 less than the prior month.
Atypical from other years is that the tally includes both 2009 and 2010-dated coins. This year was the first time in the U.S. Mint's history of selling the gold coins that a current year's eagles were not offered during the first week of January. Exceptional demand for the eagles in 2009 resulted in a delayed release of 2010s.
The 84,000 total makes last month the fifth best February ever for the gold series that dates back to 1986, but the level is below the output from 2009. Better same month sales include:
