US Mint Sales: Mayflower Compact Quarters Sell Fast, Platinum Eagle Ranks Second

The United States Mint released four collector products last week: the 2026-W Proof American Platinum Eagle and three products featuring the 2026 Semiquincentennial Mayflower Compact quarters, the first of this year’s five designs marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. Those four items occupied the top four positions on the Mint’s weekly sales chart.

Products featuring circulating-quality Mayflower Compact quarters struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints became unavailable within minutes of release, with the latest sales figures showing each near its product limit. Two-roll sets of the quarters — one roll from each facility — led sales, while 100-coin bags ranked third (Philadelphia) and fourth (Denver). Overall, a combined 1,015,420 quarters were sold.

The second-biggest seller of the week was the new one-ounce 2026-W Proof American Platinum Eagle, featuring the first of three "Charters of Freedom" themed coins — a series inspired by the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Launched at $2,895 — a price likely to be reduced this week as platinum prices have declined — collectors purchased 3,351 coins, accounting for 22.3% of the allotted 15,000 mintage.

By comparison, the opening performance of the new 2026-W Proof Platinum Eagle can be viewed against the Mint’s prior five-year proof Platinum Eagle design series (2021–2025), which celebrated the freedoms enshrined in the First Amendment: religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. Early sales reached 4,961 coins for the first issue in 2021 (now 9,884), followed by 6,668 in 2022 (now 9,941) and a peak of 9,620 in 2023 (now 9,303). Debut sales then fell to 2,783 for the fourth issue in 2024 (now 9,570), before the final coin closed the series last year with early sales of 2,615 (now 6,454). Of note, those coins were initially priced much lower, with, for example, last year’s issue opening at $1,545.

In its latest report, the Mint published sales data for 626 numismatic products. For a second time, no products saw week-over-week gains of more than 1,000 units.

Sales momentum eased, with just 43 products topping their previous gains, down from 79 the week before. That followed earlier weekly increases of 23, 106, 143, 87, 112, 72, 139, 142, 106, 69, 112, 148, 98, 109, 75, 145, 106, 114, 102, 94, 57, 109, 101, 94, 90, 110, 85, 103, 105, 89, 120, 98, 93, and 102.

Nineteen products posted week-over-week declines, up from 16 in the prior week. Several warrant callouts, including:
