Established in 2003, the CCAC is a federal panel that advises the Secretary of the Treasury on themes and designs for all U.S. coins and medals.

Specifically, the meeting agenda includes a review and discussion of candidate designs for:

  • The Shirley Chisholm Congressional Gold Medal
  • The 2027 and 2028 Native American $1 coin reverse portfolios
  • The 2027-2030 American Youth Sports quarters and Paralympic half dollars (obverses)
  • A potential review of the obverse and reverse designs for the 2026 Semiquincentennial $1 coin.

Authorized under Public Law 118-150, the Shirley Chisholm Congressional Gold Medal Act honors Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman elected to Congress and the first to seek a major party’s presidential nomination. The law directs the U.S. Mint to create a Congressional Gold Medal recognizing her trailblazing career in public service, her advocacy for equality and education, and her lasting impact on American politics. It also authorizes bronze duplicates of the medal for public sale.

Introduced in 2009 and authorized under Public Law 110-82, the U.S. Mint’s Native American $1 Coin Program offers annually changing reverses that celebrate the important contributions made by Indian tribes and individual Native Americans to the history and development of the United States.

Public Law 116-330, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act (CCCRA), authorizes the Mint to produce circulating quarters from 2027 through 2030 highlighting sports played by American youth, with up to five different sports represented each year. It also permits the Mint to strike a redesigned half dollar annually featuring a design emblematic of a single Paralympic sport.
