Witter Coin’s Nov. 14 eBay Live Event to Include Rare 1849 Mormon $10 Gold Coin

Collectors will have a chance to see one of the finest known territorial gold pieces when Witter Coin hosts a special eBay Live event on Friday, Nov. 14, at 2:00 p.m. PST. The San Francisco-based firm, serving collectors since 1960, is making its eBay Live debut with a 10-hour livestream offering more than $5 million in U.S. coins, world and ancient issues, paper money, gold nuggets, and bullion.

Witter Coin owner Seth Chandler said the event reflects months of preparation and close work with eBay.

"I’m very excited to join eBay Live. I’ve spent the last 6 months communicating with the team at eBay, and I’m very impressed with the improvements they have made, and continue to make to their platform," said Chandler. "As someone who has streamed for over 2,000 hours, I’m going all in on showing the numismatic world on eBay Live why we are America’s Coin Shop. Not only does Witter Coin have an amazing selection of coins for all types of collectors, but we are also very dedicated to coin education."

Headlining the sale is an 1849 Mormon $10 gold coin, one of the rarest territorial pieces from the early American West. Only ten examples are known, and the coin featured in the event is regarded as the finest of the surviving group. Its estimated value is $1.9 million to $2 million, the firm notes.

Other highlights include:

  • A 1934 $10,000 note and $5,000 note
  • An 1851 $50 gold piece produced by Augustus Humbert in San Francisco — an important Gold Rush artifact
  • A 1652 New England Shilling, the earliest coin type made in North America

The broadcast is part of an expanding series of numismatic livestreams on eBay Live, giving collectors real-time access to notable coins and currency.
