The United States Mint has unveiled the 2026 American Innovation $1 Coin designs, recognizing key contributions from Iowa, Wisconsin, California, and Minnesota.

Each coin highlights an innovation or innovator from its state: Dr. Norman Borlaug holding a sheaf of wheat and wheat stalks (Iowa), a stylized aerial view of the Cray-1 supercomputer (Wisconsin), Steve Jobs seated before a landscape of oak-covered rolling hills (California), and a 1940s-era truck with an early front-mounted refrigeration unit (Minnesota).
They are part of the U.S. Mint’s American Innovation® $1 Coin Program, a multi-year series introduced in 2018 that celebrates American ingenuity through reverse designs honoring achievements from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories.
To develop the designs, the Mint works with each state’s governor and subject experts to identify themes of local innovation. Final selections were made by the Secretary of the Treasury after reviews by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA). The original candidate designs can be viewed for Iowa, Wisconsin, California, and Minnesota.
Since 2011, dollar coins have not been released into circulation. The U.S. Mint now produces them solely for numismatic products. Subscriptions for several 2026 issues are already open, allowing collectors to automatically receive them upon release. Rolls and bags with the Iowa dollar are expected to go on sale in early January. Additional offerings — including rolls and bags for the remaining designs, as well as proof and reverse proof sets containing all four coins — will follow later in the year.
U.S. Mint-published images and descriptions for the years’s four $1 coins follow.
2026 Iowa Innovation Dollar Image

Designer: Don Everhart, Artistic Infusion Program Designer
Sculptor: Eric David Custer, Mint Medallic Artist
This design depicts Dr. Norman Borlaug holding a sheaf of wheat and wheat stalks, highlighting his pioneering work developing resilient crops capable of feeding a growing global population. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "IOWA." Additional inscriptions are "NORMAN BORLAUG" and "FATHER OF THE GREEN REVOLUTION."
2026 Wisconsin Innovation Dollar Image

Designer: Paul Romano, Artistic Infusion Program Designer
Sculptor: John P. McGraw, Mint Medallic Artist
This design exhibits a stylized aerial view of the Cray-1 supercomputer. The image emphasizes the Cray-1 not only through its shape, but also by suggesting the shape of a "C" for Cray-1 and "computer." Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "WISCONSIN." The additional inscription is "CRAY-1 SUPERCOMPUTER."
2026 California Innovation Dollar Image

Designer: Elana Hagler, Artistic Infusion Program Designer
Sculptor: Phebe Hemphill, Mint Medallic Artist
This design presents a young Steve Jobs sitting in front of a quintessentially northern California landscape of oak-covered rolling hills. His posture and expression, as he is captured in a moment of reflection, show how this environment inspired his vision to transform complex technology into something as intuitive and organic as nature itself. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "CALIFORNIA." Additional inscriptions are "STEVE JOBS" and "MAKE SOMETHING WONDERFUL."
2026 Minnesota Innovation Dollar Image

Designer: Beth Zaiken, Artistic Infusion Program Designer
Sculptor: Joseph V. Noorigian, Mint Medallic Artist
This design features a 1940s-era truck with an early front-mounted refrigeration unit. The icons adorning the side of the truck identify the diverse temperature-sensitive goods whose widespread transportation was made possible by this innovation. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "MINNESOTA." The additional inscription is "MOBILE REFRIGERATION."
Shared Obverse Design Featuring Annual Privy Mark and 250th Addition
Designed by Justin Kunz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, the obverse of each $1 coin in the series features a common design: a profile of the Statue of Liberty with the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "$1."

Since 2019, the obverse has also featured a stylized gear privy mark symbolizing industry and innovation. The gear’s design changes slightly each year, giving every coin a distinct touch. In 2026, the privy mark will also incorporate a Liberty Bell with the inscription "250," commemorating the Semiquincentennial of the Nation’s founding.
Edge Inscriptions
All $1 coins in the series bear incused edge inscriptions showing the year of minting, the mint mark of the production facility, and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

Sorry about that, Chief!
LOL I loved watching the reruns, while growing up Vinnie! Kind of a Mad Magazine meets James Bond or the Avengers! Quite comical! For any unfamiliar, Get Smart aired 5 seasons, running from September 18, 1965 until January 16 of 1970. Hard to believe that was 55 years ago!
The classic exchange between Max and Chief!
Chief:”Max, I don’t know what I’m going to do about you. You bungle assignment after assignment,”. Max: “I resent that, Chief.”

AND… $591,058.89 worth of NGC UltraBreaks gone! Craig, did you happen to grab a couple?
CaliSkier,
Damn, I forgot about them as I was taking care of some other business. Looks like I won’t be getting a Fiji Morgan Dollar anytime soon. I hope you had better luck. I did receive my Navy privy ASE today, and it looks ‘perfect’. How many UltraBreaks were you able to snag? Cheers

@JQC. California could have joined in the Space Shuttle coin fray too 🙂 Rockwell International was the prime contractor for the Space Shuttle Orbiter. My dad worked there in the 70s and 80’s (not the aerospace part). The week after STS-01 launched the company newsletter was published in full color featuring the launch. Looks like FL got to the Shuttle coin first 🙂
Cali,
I don’t have a problem with Kaiser reappearing this week. Not sure why he left & scrubbed a gazillion comments, other than to cool his jets and crawl out of the deep hole that he dug. He comes; he goes every few months. It is what it is.
Deleted comment… It is what it is…Just for you my friend, I’ll try to be patient with he/they/them.
I hope the rumor of Sir Kaiser’s return is not an exaggeration.
It is as clear as a bell that Kaiser is back, crystal clear.

Thanks, Rick. Too bad I didn’t catch on sooner.
Funny stuff, didn’t see Kaisers post. Kaiser Hospitals in strike….
Happy Friday All!
Does anyone out here (even you all on the sidelines looking in) have any credible intel, or insight as to when 25DSG Gold Supes may ship?
Even if the ship date is ballpark, from a credible source?
Thanks much!
I suspect it’s OGP related, the comms from the USM in setting customer expectations has been deafening quiet.., Unless they simply don’t know, which may imply like,., Nov/Dec ship date, I don’t know…,

KCSO,
I’m a bit worried that the Marine privy might go CU faster than the Navy one, so I was impressed that the elderly woman working in CS figured out why I kept having to finish my orders as a guest. We want to get in and compete the order quickly. We’ll see soon enough, but she said I should be good to go! Glad to help a fellow coin aficionado! Cheers
ps That is a good idea about checking it out prior to the Marine privy release! Why didn’t I think of that. Lol
KCSO like you I m not really I to the LESPs but will take a shot, 25k gonna run fast. After FHG and multiple mint items. Devil Dog should, have been the USMC privy!!! Semper fi!

LBMA Daily Silver Prices continued higher this week, after breaching $50 for the first time in history last Friday (10/10/2025 Silver = $50.76), with Silver remaining in backwardation. Here are this week’s LBMA Silver Prices:
10/17/2025 = $54.10
10/16/2025 = $53.02
10/15/2025 = $52.59
10/14/2025 = $51.52
10/13/2025 = $51.24
Craig, I sat out the “UltraBreaks” game of chance! $279.99 a bit steep for a likely 2023 Fiji Morgan Tribute IMO. The 10 packs with the CC $20 Liberty’s was definitely enticing. However, since I already feel like I’m rolling a pair of dice with $350, regarding potential for Mint quality control issues, for a 2025 LESPS and Marine Corps Privy, I figured why push my Luck?
I hear you and am in full agreement. I’m not a gambler and paying $280 for a minuscule chance of getting a nice classic CC Morgan doesn’t get me excited. Besides, those bozos at NGC sent my notification for the sale yesterday, then sent me a email stating they sent it too early, and then forgot to send it today when the actual sale happened. Good grief! After reviewing the odds of getting a coin worth $280, I saw the writing on the wall. I’ll be happy with the LESPS and hopefully the ASE w/ Marine privy coin. Cheers
Mike Unser, just a heads up, in case you haven’t noticed. In the above article, you wrote: “Subscriptions for several 2026 issues are already open, allowing collectors to automatically receive them upon release. Rolls and bags with the Iowa dollar are expected to go on sale in early January. Odd as the reverse proof are not as nice as the proofs. Perhaps the USM makes more €£¥$ on the reverse proof, tired gimmick already IMO
John Q, perhaps the margin on the reverse proofs fits their pricing needs or closer to the margin needed in order to be profitable? The production costs should be near identical, however the proof set sells for $27.50 and the RP set $32.25.
I’ve been subscribe to the Innovation RP Set. I sort of like the raised surfaces mirrored and shiny, but that is my personal preference. I found it interesting when I got my no box no COA 2025 Silver AWB proof set the Vera Rubin quarter looked 95% frosted. Like I said it is a preference thing. I think more people here prefer the regular proof. I am not convinced that the RP Innovation dollars are continuing in 2026. This year’s subscription has not shipped. The same notice could pop up after Dec. 9. Maybe they are still trying to figure… Read more »
Opps @CaliSkier I read you post too quickly I didn’t realize your last paragraph was a direct quote from the mint, It flat out said the RP set was continuing I stand corrected. It does still feel like they are trying to close the SF Mint.
Vinnie, RP ok by me as well, just not into starting a new area, per se….. The Porgans RP look odd but again as u said thats me! RPAI back in ‘26, but odd no proof, who’s Minding the Mint, Jim Hutton….
Personal, I believe you are likely correct and the Innovation dollars, should get a small boost in sales at the very least? Unfortunately, the proof version is being discontinued and IMO 3 of the 4 designs for next year, will likely end up with the design details, terribly washing out visually with the reverse proof finish? I’m still quite surprised that the Mint decided to keep making the Reverse Proof Set vs the Proof Set? The regular proof set has outsold the reverse proof sets, every single year of issue. So, I’m not sure the reasoning on continuing a set… Read more »

KC&SO: ordered first day, so will let you know. I suspect Mint will ship like the “mint to demand” for the Supe shipment…..big dump all at once. As a side note I ordered several mint products 6 tiers ago, mint slow to ship, and the shipment has been on an unusual route….I reside a few miles north of the Redstone Arsenal airstrip, but the shipment went to Phoenix AZ, then to Scottsdale, AZ, now last reported at Memphis, TN…..shipping from the Mint is like a box of chocolates, never know exactly where or when…….just what….

Why United States Mint Silver purchasers will be Lead Actors in their own version of the Twilight Zone. While working for CAG, I traded soybeans, corn, and managed natural gas derivatives, with weekly costs often reaching $100k. Natural gas strips operate similarly to how the US Mint uses silver derivatives. For FY2026 or CY2026, the Mint has likely already secured silver at $45–$52 per unit (plus planchets additional), or will soon, with another range being $52–$60. Mintages are paramount for lower priced products such as Silver. IF you purchase any Silver products for the remainder of CY2025, then you are… Read more »
Cag seems very accurate. Indeed major Ag prices to go up@USM, when maybe as ba$e at $40/50 locks in a tad, either way some more $ to buy. As Au, low. Mintage wonders will try to top each other . Likely Porgans under 100k, 50k makes when winner$.
The 2025 Marine Corp privy is priced @ $105.00.
In CY2026 that same coin could be $140.00 to $150.00, regardless of any premium for the 250th year anniversary, and with fractional mintages.
Nightmare scenario…
So anticipating a $35 – $45 price increase on 1 oz Silver products (likely in Dec) for 2026 silver product line?
Mr Hollis likely to shake things up a bit.., IDK(?)
What else is within the realm of possibilities?
Aside from Dynamic pricing on HOT items….
I would think ANY product that is currently unprofitable would become either profitable or eliminated.
That would include:
Mint Silver Proof Set, United States Mint Proof Set, United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set and the multitude of products that are included under miscellaneous section on the Mints Annual Report.
In other words, considerable price hikes in CY2026.
Seems like the drift is a clad set would be $90, or need to sell a lot more of them. As to myself, those sets are not in my future anyway. Bazillions of such from 1968s on……not really a profitable sale item, AMPEx wants them! Cheap I suspect
So true JQC, those sets never (or rarely) bring what you have to pay the mint for them. I’m only interested it the PM coins myself and those I can at the very least get spot if I was so inclined to sell. And those PM coins really sparkle in appearance compared to regular uncirculated coins. Cheers
I anticipate $35-$45 increase per ounce for Silver. The timing is questionable.
Well, for 2026, I want to see –
– UNC Fractional Buffalos with a ‘D’
– Termination of Palladium Eagle with mint mark, and pivot to a Palladium BU strike
$150+ companion medals tied to the 250th Retro Commems on top of Gold Dynamic pricing is going to really take the fun out of those purchase, not sure if the USM took that into account, though suspect I’m probably really wrong, as well,
I don’t see fractional Buffalos in 2026. TOO much on the Mint’s plate for the 250th. Nothing on the plate after 2026. Prices are going to be astronomical for Gold anyway.
Fractionals will be the only way for MOST to be playing Gold. That’s why you’re going to see $700+ on the 1/10 oz. American Gold Eagle Proof…
I’d love to see a fractional Buffalo set offered again and would pay the cost. The downside is my proof and uncir. sets of fractional Buffalos would likely decrease in value. But then again, I don’t plan on selling any…ever. I would agree with cagcrisp in that the mint has an awful lot on their plate for next year (besides if they would offer those sets in 2026, I’d be concerned REB would have to take out a 3rd mortgage to pay for all those Au coins). Cheers
“if they would offer those sets in 2026, I’d be concerned REB would have to take out a 3rd mortgage to pay for all those Au coins”
Oh, we’re on the 4th already. LOL!
I’ll be feeling your pain next year REB as I plan on picking up a few Au coins, especially the 1804. I tried to get the CS at the mint to hook me up with one when I was conversing with them this week, but alas to no avail! Cheers
$700for a tenth z Au…wow buckets bought for years at LCS for $60….
I paid $38 each for the first 1/10 AGEs I purchased at a LCS in early 90s…
The United States Mint has run a profit analysis for the 2025 Marine Corp privy.
Which is the most profitable?
100,000 mintage @ $105.00 OR
xx,000 mintage @ $yyy.00
If the Mint delayed the Marine privy issue date and mark up to $140-150 range all 100k would still sell out…thanks for your insight as to where things are going….
HarryB,
I’ll take the Under on 100k IF prices were increased to $140-$150.00.
IF the Mint agreed with you, they will do it…
Cag, I’ll take the Under on 90k IF prices were increased to $140-$150.00.
I’d take 75k without ABb purchases…still a 15m CU….
To say the annual uncirculated mint set is unprofitable to the mint remains a joke. Everything except the packaging is already in place. Simply dialing up the strike pressure, inserting the coins, and shipping them out cannot be a big enough expense to make these sets unprofitable. If I’m wrong, I’d sure like to see the breakdown.
I’d agree Dave and selling them for a profit is usually not bloody likely. Accountants can fix any book issues long & short term. Maybe this year I get 1 or 2, they may go Jurassic soon or cost beaucoup buck$
I am dying to know if the annual unc. mint set is unprofitable all by itself. I think that item is always lumped in the annual core set category with the proof set and silver proof sets. I don’t know if the proof coins are dragging them down or if they are unprofitable on their own. The annual core set in 2024 seem to be profitable until you add in SG&A (overhead) I don’t know how they allocate SG&A. It seems roughly proportional to units sold but not exactly.
Out of great curiosity, I’m inquiring as to whether any amongst us, interested in the 2025, 1804 Draped Bust Gold Dollar, is familiar with or has happened to read or peruse the following: “EMBASSY TO THE EASTERN COURTS OF COCHIN-CHINA, SIAM, AND MUSCAT; IN THE U. S. SLOOP-OF-WAR PEACOCK, DAVID GEISINGER, COMMANDER, DURING THE YEARS 1832-3-4. BY EDMUND ROBERTS. NEW YORK: HARPER & BROTHERS. 1837.” I ask, in that, apparently Edmund Robert’s was instrumental in the creation of the 1804 Dollar(silver) being gifted to dignitaries, with which he’d been assigned to negotiate with, in order to sign treaties with and secure safe travel or commerce… Read more »

@CaliSkier, I got in after a short wait. Couldn’t figure what the fuss was about. I think the 2025 Snowman coins dropped on October 14th. I few years back I had a multi-hour wait for some product or other.
VinnieC, the fuss is about the current “silver squeeze” and supply and demand issues. Take a peek at this Bloomberg article on Mining dot com that I linked below, titled: “Silver traders rush bars to London as historic squeeze rocks market”. People are being driven, assuredly by the spot rise in silver and gold, as well as what their hearing in the press and rushing out to buy(FOMO). How long this all lasts is anyone’s best guess? Andy Schectman relayed: “He blames much of this on bottlenecks at the U.S. Mint, which he calls “the model of inefficiency,” unable to produce enough supply when demand spikes. But he also says premiums reflect a deeper issue—the public’s growing insistence on physical metal rather than paper exposure.” “Schectman was even harsher when asked about exchange-traded funds like SLV and GLD.” “SLV and GLD… read pages 6 through 12 titled risk factors,” he warned, calling them “a scam” in essence. “I wouldn’t put my money in… Read more »
Thanks for the quotes, Cali. Thanks DaveSW,
This is typical content on ZH as I recall? When I was building my stack, I was there often right along with the MNB, eBay, and a couple of Ap’s that ran specials now & then (APX, Dillon Gage, etc)…..

Either way you look at it, if the owners of paper contracts were able to all demand they wanted to take physical delivery, you… Read more »
Cali: a loud Amen to holding physical……Storage not that big a deal unless you are into 1000 oz silver bars….a variety of small hand trucks, 4 wheel dollies, or electric pallet jacks are available for transport…..a monster box only weights 43 pounds….a fork lift attachment in place of the bucket on my tractors front end loader is great to unload trucks…..Tractor Supply has a 60 minute Liberty safe on sale for $1299 right now….
I still have some room in my Liberty safe for more Au and Ag! It is getting crowded though…Lol. The only paper I would hold for PM’s would be the ‘Gold Notes’ which aren’t paper, but supposedly 24k Au. You can buy a 1/1000th of a gram note for around $9.00. What a deal!
