Struck at the San Francisco Mint, the coin bears a United States Navy privy mark on its obverse to honor the service’s 250th anniversary.

The Navy traces its origins to October 13, 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized two armed vessels to challenge British forces. It has since remained a vital part of the nation’s military strength.

Two other Silver Eagles with special privy marks were issued earlier this year. They include the 250th Anniversary U.S. Army 2025-W Proof American Silver Eagle, released in June, and the 2025-W Proof American Silver Eagle with Laser Privy Mark, introduced in August. Both had identical mintages and prices to the Navy issue, are now unavailable, and are selling at premiums on the secondary market. Today’s Navy edition will be followed in November by the 250th Anniversary U.S. Marine Corps 2025-P Proof American Silver Eagle.

The Navy Silver Eagle is nearly identical to other issues in the series, featuring Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty design.

Obverse (heads side) of the 250th Anniversary U.S. Navy 2025-S Proof American Silver Eagle. The Navy emblem privy mark honors the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy. It appears in the field behind Liberty, just to the left of the “Y” in the word LIBERTY.

First used on the 1916–1947 half dollar, the design shows Liberty in stride, draped in the flag, her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. It returned with the launch of the American Silver Eagle series in 1986 and has appeared ever since. In 2021, the Mint refined the image using historical assets and modern technology to better reflect Weinman’s original vision.

The only difference in today’s release is the addition of the Navy emblem privy mark.

The reverse illustrates an eagle coming in for a landing, carrying an oak branch as if to add it to a nest. The design by artist Emily Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso replaced John Mercanti’s original heraldic eagle, which appeared on the coin from the series’ 1986 debut through 2021. Reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
