These Batman pieces are the latest releases in the U.S. Mint’s Comic Art Coin & Medal Program. Developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, the program will spotlight three DC Super Heroes each year for three years, with additional comic themes planned in later phases.

Today’s featured offerings include the following Mint-designated pre-order products:

  • Comic Art 24-Karat Gold Proof Coin – Batman™ — composed of 1/2 troy ounce of 99.99% gold
  • Comic Art 2.5 Ounce Silver Medal – Batman™ — featuring 2.5 ounces of 99.9% silver
  • Comic Art One Ounce Silver Medal – Batman™ — contains 1 ounce of 99.9% silver

All three share the same basic designs. (See the original candidate designs here.)

On the obverse, U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna — a former DC artist — depicts Batman in action defending Gotham, with a stone eagle above symbolizing vigilance. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY" on all three pieces, with "2025" appearing on the gold coin and the 2.5-ounce silver medal.

The reverse shows Batman in silhouette against the Gotham skyline, with the Bat-Signal shining above as a beacon of justice and courage. The design, by U.S. Mint Medallic Artist John P. McGraw and sculpted by Menna, carries inscriptions on the gold coin of "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1/2 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD," and the legal tender value of "$50." The silver medals instead bear the inscriptions "BATMAN" and "JUSTICE AND COURAGE."

Both sides of the designs include the artists’ initials.

Comic Art Coin & Medal Program

The Batman gold coin and silver medals mark the second superhero release in the series, following July’s debut featuring Superman. Still to come this year are designs depicting Wonder Woman, scheduled for release on Nov. 13.

The series is scheduled to run for three years, with three superheroes highlighted annually through gold coins and silver medals. A clad medal set featuring a year’s three characters is also planned, with the first set expected in 2026.

Green Lantern (see recommended designs), Robin, and Supergirl are slated for 2026, while The Flash, Batgirl, and Aquaman are scheduled to join in 2027. The initial nine focus on DC characters, but the Mint has indicated the program may expand to other comic themes afterward.

Ordering, Prices and Limits

Pre-orders for the Batman gold coin and silver medals open today on the Mint’s website, under its Comic Art Coin & Medal Program page. Products will ship this winter.
