The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Sept 16, to review and discuss designs for the Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal and the candidate designs for the 2026 Comic Art Coin and Medal Program.
The CCAC is a federal panel established in 2003 to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on themes and designs for all U.S. coins and medals.
Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal
Authorized by the Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act (Public Law No: 118-149), the Secretary of the Treasury is directed to have the U.S. Mint strike a single Congressional Gold Medal honoring 60 diplomats for their lifesaving actions during World War II.
After its presentation to the next of kin of the awardees, the medal will be transferred to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where it will be available for display and research as appropriate.
As is customary with Congressional Gold Medals, the Mint is also authorized to produce 1.5-inch and 3-inch bronze duplicates for sale to the public, with proceeds deposited into the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund.
2026 Comic Art Coin and Medal Program
Launched in 2025 with Superman, and set to feature Wonder Woman and Batman next, the U.S. Mint’s Comic Art Coin and Medal Program pairs a half-ounce .9999 fine gold $50 coin with companion .999 fine silver medals in one-ounce and 2.5-ounce sizes. Later issues will also expand into clad medals, broadening accessibility for collectors.
As recently announced, the multi-year series will continue in 2026 with Supergirl, Robin, and Green Lantern, followed in 2027 by The Flash, Batgirl, and Aquaman. Blending modern comic artistry with traditional minting, the program showcases DC’s most iconic heroes in a variety of formats.
