President Trump has nominated Paul Hollis of Louisiana to serve as Director of the United States Mint, the White House announced July 17.
A lifelong coin collector and rare-coin dealer, Hollis brings more than four decades of numismatic experience to the role. He began collecting at age six after receiving a Peace dollar from his grandmother and is now recognized as a national expert in rare coins and precious metals.
He earned a political science degree from LSU in 1994 and, while still in college, opened a karate school. He later worked his way up at Blanchard & Co. in New Orleans before founding Paul Hollis Rare Coins in 2003.
In 2011, he authored American Numismatist, which was named "U.S. Coin Book of the Year" by the Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG). In addition to that recognition, he has published multiple articles in national magazines and journals.
Hollis served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2012 to 2023 and currently sits on the state’s Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. He has also served on the board of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Hollis would oversee all U.S. Mint facilities, its law enforcement division, and the nation’s bullion reserves. His nomination follows the March departure of former Mint Director Ventris C. Gibson, with Kristie McNally currently serving as interim director.
