The United States Mint started accepting pre-orders last week for their 2024 commemorative coins honoring the bicentennial of Harriet Tubman’s birth. The U.S. Mint’s latest round of sales figures offer an initial glimpse into how they’re doing in the early going.
The sales numbers certainly aren’t out of the park. Then again, as shipment of the commemoratives aren’t expected to begin until Feb. 12, there isn’t a compelling reason for collectors to order them now aside from a discount of $5 per coin during their 30-day introductory pricing period.
All the commemorative coins were among the Mint’s best weekly sellers. Leading the pack were the silver dollars in proof finish, as is almost always the case with commemorative products. However, it didn’t claim the top spot for the week. That honor belonged to the reverse proof set of Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars, which has been unavailable.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 405 numismatic products. The data revealed that 43 products outperformed their sales from the previous week, compared to 114 in the prior report. Excluding the new commemoratives, two products experienced increases of over 1,000 units, whereas four did in the previous report.
Additionally, two products had negative weekly sales, compared to nine in the previous report. Bags of Philadelphia Mint-struck Georgia Innovation dollars saw a modest decline of 2 units, while the 2023 Proof Set dropped by 298 units.

I see the reverse proof Morgan/Peace dollars which have been sold out from day 1 magically increased over 17,000. I guess if they had returns in unopened boxes they could resell them, otherwise they are simply really poor at accounting and reporting. But gee whiz, for all intents and purposes they sold out back Nov 9 when they were released. does it really take 2 months to account for everything?
