The U.S. Mint’s sales data for the few days just before Christmas was fairly typical in that it was not particularly impressive in terms of high-quantity gains.
In fact, it was somewhat atypical for this time, as it revealed a noticeable decline in sales for two of the Mint’s flagship annual products: the 2023 Proof Set and the uncirculated 2023 Mint Set. The former fell by 1,309 to 367,418 units, while the latter dropped by 10,221 to 161,746 units.
The uncirculated 2023 Mint Set was just released on Dec. 5, and it was the U.S. Mint’s top seller for two weeks in a row. Taking its place were the proof Morgan and Peace silver dollars, with each rising by 668.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 396 numismatic products. Among these products, twenty-six outperformed their sales from the previous week, compared to forty-three in the prior report. None of the products experienced an increase of over 1,000 units, as opposed to seven in the previous report.
Furthermore, six products had negative weekly sales, compared to three in the previous report. In addition to the already mentioned pair of sets, the 2023-S Morgan & Peace Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Set saw a somewhat sizable decline, falling by 122 units.

I still don’t see how there are returns so far after release for the limited set. Are they really that far behind processing returns? Guess the grading company having issues getting paper delivered for thr labels. Also. I visited the medal of honor heritage center in chattanooga. No mention of the woman having the medal rescinded and re presented. It did say many fought for her to be honored for her service as a surgeon despite being a woman. They didn’t only sell those sets on the release date. I assume many ordered after the release date and ended up returning.
True, but the posted weekly sales numbers didn’t jump in grand fashion. While I, at first, kept thinking this was a 24 hour sell out, I am reminded that that is not the case (or proverbial red oak box, so to speak). Butbif your thesis is correct, they returned almost as many as they sold. And with more and more returns on so many of the releases the last 2 years, I don’t see the series selling out any time soon. Man, have the RP Morgan/Peace Dollar Set really bombed on the secondary market. I saw a coin show where they were selling the pair in NGC 70 for just $250. Glad I only bought 1 set.
Interesting! I was going to buy 5 sets, ended up cancelling all of them with the hope of picking up a set much much later at a better price. No hurry. I
I’ll leave mine in the box and maybe grab a set if it is graded and with original packaging. Mint keeps up with the dei and crap grade coin I cam save enough to get one of the 1945 gold 75th anniversary ww2 coins.
I only purchased 7 coins from the Mint this year and will probably do the same in 2024. Saving lots of money, thanks to the mint. Or maybe I should say I’m redirecting it to other areas. What are they wanting for the WWII V75 gold coin? I missed out buying that set, and the ASE V75, and haven’t thought about them since.
When I see the prices going down for the products on the market, then I’ll stop buying from the Mint and buy from dealers again. Right now, the Mint prices are lower than the dealer prices. It hasn’t always been that way. I watch the market and go with the flow.
Last I checked 12 to 16,000 depending if in box or graded. 70s are closer to 20 grand or more. A d if you get autograph one I think it was 40 to 75k
Gimmicks and prices killed, are killing the Mint. The base has been decimated. Fifty thousand RP Sets returned, missing? To be resold? No legs inthe aftermarket…. And another next year, them another a One x deal would have held % now EVERY YEAR a RP set and Porgan combo platter….PASS. I used to buy a boatload now I bought 3 proof ☮️ and 1 Morgan ‘23, too digital sanitary looking. Buy a classic
The original issues are the best. I see a slight improvement of the liberty portrait on the ’23 Morgans over the ’21 Morgans. I like the revision. I’m a Peace Dollar fan myself, even though I know not everyone is enthusiastic about the Peace Dollar design. The Standing Liberty quarter and Peace dollar are some of my favorite designs, although it’s too bad about the production problems they had (weak strikes). I tend to like coins that didn’t do well, like the Flying Eagle cent and Silver Three cent.
If that is the case you’re gonna love getting all 500 versions of the subway employee of the month coin coming up soon.
