The U.S. Mint’s sales data was typical for this time of year, apart from rolls and bags of quarters featuring Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren and Anna May Wong. All but one of these 20 roll and bag products climbed, contrasting against months of sales reports in which most of them logged no changes.

Elsewhere, and for a second instance, U.S. Mint stats showed slightly higher volumes of sales with 61 products outperforming their prior weekly increases compared to 50 previously.

Three products posted negative weekly sales against 5 in the previous report. Their reductions ranged from 1 to 96, with the latter tagged to the 2022-W Purple Heart Colorized Silver Dollar.

and magically, after months of being unavailable, 44 Sally Ride 3 roll set sold, along with 15 Angelou. Must be nice top have been able to get those.
as for next years issue, only 245 are still available. That was about 50 sold in one day. At that rate they will be unavailable by the end of next week.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tom, I didn’t get the Maya Angelou AWQ 3 roll set when it first came out and I certainly didn’t get it this time either, so I clearly lack the requisite numismatic magic touch.

Tom

I did get an email from the mint today regarding subscription for the innovation dollar (e.g. if you need to update anything must be done 3 days prior to the release date. If you check to see how many rolls are available under product schedule (e.g 25 coin roll from Denver) it indicates 7000, as if none have been sold. If you look under subscription then it indicates only 1111 are available. I suspect the 25 coin rolls might be sold out by the time of their release at the end of January. The women’s quarter shows as 236 available… Read more »

Tom, the subscription quantity available of the first Innovation Dollar (Ohio-D) of 2023 is at last glance down to 1107, which isn’t much of a decline from what you reported two hours ago. It is, however, a confirmation of continued downward progress and is now certainly quite a considerable amount less than the originally listed 7000 roll product limit.

Kaiser Wilhelm

As to being notified by the Mint, Tom, when a product that has been out of stock suddenly pops up as once again being available, in all the times I have signed up for one of those notices only once or twice have I actually been able to get to the Mint’s item page prior to the product being sold out again. I have no way of knowing whether I just got there too slowly and therefore too late or if the problem was that I was notified by the Mint only at the tail end of the item being… Read more »

Major D

Tom, I highly doubt that the AI$- Ohio 25-rolls P & D will be sold out on the release day. None of the other ones in the series sold out that fast. I’ve found even the number available on release day is not reliable- as the Mint always seems to add more sometime later. For instance, the TN-P and KY-P 25-rolls were not available on Oct 24 when I checked- but both are back available today. And the VT P & D seemed to sell out/ become unavailable in a few days upon release- only to have a large number… Read more »

Major D, I don’t see where it says that the available number for the 2023 Ohio-D Innovation Dollar Rolls is 7000; that is in fact the product limit, which has already been significantly reduced by subscriptions and is currently at 1094. As for the P and the D Rolls having different product limits, I would assume that’s just the Mint’s prerogative.

Tom

That is why I think (my opinion only) the mint sells, for example, only 90% of the product under subscription, and the rest on the day of release. The other possibility is a number of the items are ‘under’ subscription but in fact, the subscription might be turned off by the individual, and it takes the mint awhile to adjust for that, giving the individual a chance to reopen the subscription. All I know is I’m not taking a chance of missing out and fighting the crowd on release day.
Have a Blessed New Year all.

Major D

Happy New Year! Looking forward to release day to see what happens. You may be right, and I may be quite wrong! A strong possibility!

Major D

Kaiser, look at the “data-available” number for 23GRE (did you forget about the right-click, View Page Source, Ctl-F?)- it shows 7,000. My point is that no one knows how many rolls were “sold” by subscriptions. None of the rolls in the series have ever had a mintage equal to the product limit– mintage has always been lower. And on the release day there are always more available- through dropped and reduced subscriptions.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Major D, are we in fact looking at the same Mint web page? I just now checked the data-available number for the 23GRE following all the requisite clicking maneuvers and saw a posting of 1080 rather than 7000. Where is that 7000 coming from that I can’t find except on the home page for that item as its product limit?

38kkun.jpg
Kaiser Wilhelm

Okay, Major D, now I see where this apparent contradiction is coming from. On the Mint’s webpage for 23GRE there are two options for going to a data-available lookup, the Current and the Subscription buttons. If you leave it on Current and go to data-available you will for some inexplicable reason still see 7000; if you instead hit the Subscription button the data-available shown will be the actual number remaining, which is the original 7000 minus the subscriptions that have been registered with the Mint regarding this product up to this point in time, thus leaving only 1080 listed as… Read more »

Also, I wish you a Very Happy New Year, Major D! 🙂

Major D

Yes, the Mint’s prerogative- just strange in that I’ve never seen a difference in product limits between P and D rolls before. Happy New Year!

Tom

Major D – there is a glitch of some type when you look to see what is available. If you look under current produce you do indeed see 7000 ‘available’- as if none have been sold! However, if you look under subscription it show slightly more than 1000 available. I’m not arguing the point about how many have been sold, only arguing under subscription there are only so many left, in this case, for the innovation, there are only slightly more than 1000 available. Thanks so much, Tom, for your help in clearing up the conundrum that Major D and I had encountered in regard to how many of the 23GRE aka 2023 Ohio-D American Innovation Dollar Rolls were in fact still available. Your comment about the CURRENT and SUBSCRIPTION data-available numbers being entirely different made it possible to easily solve the problem, as the Current still lists the original 7000 while the Subscription category counts only those remaining after active subscriptions are subtracted.
Happy New Year to you, Tom! 🙂

Tom

Kaiser – that was a matter of luck I discovered the difference between the 2 choices and number of items ‘available’.

Kaiser Wilhelm

For me that doesn’t detract from the fact that you got there, Tom; what matters is that it cleared up a really perplexing question.

Major D

Yes, I get it now! In terms of the “data-available” number for subscriptions (Item R3) it would be interesting to know what that number was to start with, to (sort of) infer how many subscriptions there are (not to say that the Mint doesn’t mess with it). Speaking of subscriptions, do they not carry over from year-to-year? In checking just now, mine have all disappeared from “My Product Subscriptions” page.

Tom

yes, subscriptions carry over, thank heavens. The note I have from the mint is Please note that if you need to update your subscription information you must do so 3 business days prior to the scheduled release date for updates to be reflected on your next shipment.   …… I assume at that point you can’t subscribe. so for the innovation coins, look on Jan 27 and see how many are available. and then look the next day and see if it went up, for example 1000. That implies the increase includes those that didn’t update their subscription or includes coins… Read more »

Major D, it appears that every time we think we’ve been given a much better way to order the products we want from the Mint yet another wrench is somehow thrown into the works. If our Subscription webpages manage to reappear fully populated this will be a simple case of all’s well that ends well. If instead our subscriptions are gone for good then we will have been dealt about as devastating a blow to all of our 2023 product ordering as is imaginable. Let’s just hope for the best.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Oh, sheesh, here we go again with another question. What, Major D, is Item R3; I don’t see any such product listed for 2023.

question-where-can-i-put-my-terrarium-35426567.jpg
Kaiser Wilhelm

Item R3
Product Limit – 7,000
Available Now- 1,036
01/02/23 3:20 A.M.

There are your starting number and the remaining available, Major D. Now let’s just hope we get our Subscription Lists back!

Major D

Glad you found it Kaiser. For others, Mint Item #R3 is the AI$ 25-coin roll-D mint Subscription. However, I do not believe that the product limit for this was the starting number available- which would mean that 5,964 of the rolls were “sold” by subscription.

Kaiser Wilhelm

I’ll be the first to admit that I can no longer follow this trail of bread crumbs either away from or toward the Mint Witch’s cottage. I hereby surrender to the Gods of Perpetual Confusion. 😉

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tom, I think we’ve figured out by now that the difference in the item count between the “Current” and the “Subscription” categories for any such item is not only intentional but also correct.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Has anyone else been having a problem with their Mint Subscription List page? Mine disappeared a couple of days ago and has shown no signs whatsoever of coming back. I called the Mint about the issue and their response was to not worry about it and that it would be back in action on January 1. So here it is the New Year and all I have is a big blank space where all of my Subscriptions should be listed. This doesn’t seem to bode well at all for 2023.

Jan Muhlbauer

Yes I noticed my subscription list was totally blank when I checked on New Years Day. Will it reappear soon?
I hope that my subscriptions were not cancelled.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Several of us, Jan Muhlbauer, are now encountering precisely that situation. Despite the Mint’s Customer Service Department’s assurances to the contrary nothing has yet appeared where our Subscription Lists were several days ago. And believe me, our greatest fear is that somehow the Subscriptions have been cancelled, since having our Subscriptions erased would be tantamount to losing whatever chance, and hope for that matter, we previously had for acquiring all of the 2023 coins we had previously signed up for.

Tom

My subscriptions also don’t currently show. I suspect the Mint is revamping the look of the page and fixing some things. I think I had one item showing twice, (one being active and the other being inactive).

WOMENS 3 roll quarters – now down to 189 available under subscription

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tom, you’re a lifesaver; thank you so much for taking the time to reply, and on New Year’s day yet! You have certainly helped put my mind at ease as I was already in the midst of some rather negative visions due to the disappearance of my Subscription List. I obviously imagined I had lost any possibility of acquiring most of this (2023) year’s coins from the Mint or that at the very least I would be thrown into the typically maddening competition on each Release Day for every one of the Mint items I wanted for my collection. I’m… Read more »

Tom

If subscriptions really were wiped out, then everybody who subscribed for the Moran Dollars would have to re-subscribe. I would stick by the Mint’s comments, though I would vary it to be sometime soon in January your subscriptions will reappear.

Kaiser Wilhelm

I was just thinking what a mess we would be faced with it is indeed the case that all subscriptions have in fact been wiped out. The irony of having to re-subscribe to an entire year’s worth of coins all at once, Tom, is that it would at least in some part resemble the chaos of placing orders on a typical Release Day. After all, everyone would clearly be trying to get all of their subscriptions in at the same time and we would have yet another regular madhouse on our hands.

FViia

Good God man, you are starting to sound like Senza. More external social interaction can cure paranoia.

https://youtu.be/wRpAANsoG8I

Kaiser Wilhelm

The extreme irony here, FViia, is that your comment is as Senza-esque as anything to appear hear since he left. If you’re intent on taking his place as the resident troll, don’t. We no longer have any tolerance for the likes of that, or if you continue to pursue this course, of you.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Footnote observation, Tom: Practically all of mine were showing twice, one set with the items marked active and with the number of subscriptions indicated while the second set had no items at all marked as active. As I mentioned before, there was also still a series of AWQs as items to subscribe to which of course is literally impossible.

Major D

My subscriptions are all missing as well…….

Kaiser Wilhelm

I really appreciate the input, Major D, and it also makes me realize that if we’re going down here we’re in good company. Let’s keep our coin counting fingers crossed!

REB

Mine are all there BUT I’ve never ordered from them before. 2023 will be my first year of subscription buying. I hope to be free from the Release Day hurly burly (at least for the six subscriptions that I signed up for).

Kaiser Wilhelm

The plot thickens, REB, as my entire subscription list – and as far as I know those of Tom and Major D – are even now all still among the mysteriously missing. This makes even less sense, that the Mint would display some subscribers’ lists at random rather than showing all or none.

REB

Weird. I rechecked “My Product Subscriptions” and all six items (Silver Eagle Proof S, Silver Eagle Proof W, Morgan Proof, Morgan & Peace Reverse Proof set, Peace Proof and Silver Proof Set) with a quantity of one each are checked as Active. All shipment dates are listed as TBD.
I hope your subscriptions are restored ASAP and not TBD.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Not to worry about that part, REB, as that is standard operating procedure. It’s the “Active” indicator that counts; the TBD will resolve itself as the time to ship the subscription item nears.

Rich

Sir Kaiser, as per this thread, I just checked my product subscriptions and all my American Eagle Silver coin, Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar coin, and 2023 Morgan and Peace Dollar Two-Coin Reverse Proof Set enrollments are listed intact and active. Not sure why, hurdy-gurdy, some subscribers’ enrollments are missing and others’ are not.

Kaiser Wilhelm

This is just the weirdest development, Good Sir Rich, and one that was about the last thing I would ever have expected to happen. I’m glad yours are still there, but whether that should bring hope or despair due to the incongruity of this event I’m not exactly sure. We shall have to wait and see, I suppose.
A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU, GOOD SIR RICH!

Rich

Thank you, Sir Kaiser… wishing you a healthy and happy New Year!

BTW, how ironic, but I just noticed the US Mint’s new slogan on it’s homepage: “Subscribe Now For Stress-Free Collecting”

Kaiser Wilhelm

You’re very welcome, Good Sir Rich, and thank you for the kind wishes in return!

I hadn’t noticed that Mint slogan yet, but now that you’ve brought it to my attention I have to say it reminds me of something one might well see in George Orwell’s “1984”.

Tom

I asked the Mint regarding subscriptions, and this is the response I received
Unfortunately, we do not have a set time frame for when the information will be back on your account but it is being worked on at this time. Please be advised that multiple customers are experiencing this issue as well.

so I guess some of us have to be patient. Just looked – 113 rolls available under subscription for the 3 roll women’s.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Thanks, Tom, for taking the time and effort to look into this situation and to share the results of your research with us. This is a most unfortunate development for the Mint to ring in the New Year with; it just doesn’t seem to augur well for 2023. After all, for something as vital as the Subscription List, a tool that is now clearly more important than ever to all of a sudden go completely haywire doesn’t seem to strike a very positive note for the Mint going forward. Who exactly is minding the store now?

Available 3 roll set of Women’s now at 78.

If interested, the first of 2 eagle eggs just started hatching this morning. It was fascinating to watch the growth of the eaglets last year. Looking forward to it again this year. https://dickpritchettrealestate.com/southwest-florida-eagle-cam/?cam=1

Kaiser Wilhelm

From the personal perspective of my own Mint web account I can’t at the moment connect your AWQ 3 Roll Set quantity report to my Subscription page as it is still – contrary to the Mint’s Customer Service Department’s continuing assurances – among the missing. Consequently, with my Subscription List completely unavailable I’m running blind here at the moment. The latest I have heard from the Mint is that not only will my Subscription List eventually return but that when it does so it will still be fully populated. I find it difficult to give credence to the latter since… Read more »

Antonio

I guess we can stop waiting. lol.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Antonio, allow me to at least have what’s left of my optimistic fantasies (unless the optimism itself is wishful thinking). Egad!

Tom

now down to 34, I’m thinking not available for subscription by tomorrow

Kaiser Wilhelm

And us, Tom, with our online Mint Subscription Lists nowhere to be found. Now it all comes down to when – or I suppose if – they come back it will be as blanks or as previously populated.

Antonio

What?! Our subscriptions are gone?!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Well, Antonio, it appears that question does not have a simple yes or no answer. Some of us have “lost” our subscription pages while others clearly have not; the reports have been coming in here from our various coin compadres indicating one reality or the other. It seems the U.S. Mint’s Subscription function has turned into some bizarre numismatic version of the perpetual conundrum that applies to Schrodinger’s Cat.

FViia

Now only 12 left. Looks like they will be gone for subscription within the hour.

Kaiser Wilhelm

I see from your comment below, FViia, that your Subscription page is still in operation, so it’s clear that you’re covered and an AWQ 3 Roll Set will be heading your way next month; congratulations! As for those of us who have (at least temporarily so) been, so to speak, “vaporized”, when (if?) our subscriptions reappear they will, according to the Mint’s Customer Service Department, be as complete with our selections as they were to begin with. I would like to take their word for it and thus not lose any sleep over it, but you know as well as… Read more »

Antonio

I was hopeful I’d be able to get one 2021-W type 1 proof ASE, but alas, it never was to be. C’est la vie.

Tom

Since the Mint is aware of the issue, I assume one still has a subscription despite not seeing it at this time. If the subscriptions were actually wiped out, then I would have expected the number of units available to increase dramatically all of a sudden, but that didn’t happen. What happens to someone who has a subscription but had it set to inactive and decided they want to active it? Since the subscription indicates you can activate/inactivate an item up to 3 days before release I would assume the mint treats an inactive account as being ‘active’ pending and… Read more »

FViia

Subscriptions are working for me, just checked.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Cool, FVii. Happy for you of course and also can’t help but hope that your excellent fortune is seriously contagious!

Kaiser Wilhelm

The point you make regarding how cancelled subscriptions would show as additions to the “data-available” numbers is a good and valid one and that fact that those quantities don’t appear to have suddenly increased is a grand bringer of hope to the more pessimistic of us. Thanks, Tom, for the uplift!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tom, I believe what might be missing from that calculation is the fact that an inactive subscription item can only be activated if all of the subscriptions for that item haven’t already sold out. In other words, the Mint isn’t promising activation of a subscription item under any circumstances but rather only if there are any items left to be subscribed to and even then only up to three days before the item’s release day.

Major D

Unless the Mint miscalculated and has oversold the available product, then the Mint will go back and retroactively decide a date by which you will or will not get the next release under the subscription enrollment. This happened before, when I did not make the cut-off.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Fear not, brave Antonio, as you may well not be alone in bemoaning the fate of unrequited coins (if that even makes the slightest bit of sense). The Mint has chosen to start 2023 with a grandiose mystery play of its own (or not?) choosing, and it seems that roughly half of us will be waiting to see how that plays out. To have successfully subscribed or to have instead been shafted to the core, that is something we will shortly find out.

Major D

My subscriptions are back!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Congrats, Major D! The great mystery has apparently come to an auspicious conclusion and now we will be able to acquire the Mint coins of our choice after all without battling the BOTS etc.

Is that a bridge or an overpass?

The Turing Test was meant to determine if an AI could think like a human. Now we face trials by AIs to verify that we humans can think like a human. Does this mean that while no AI has ever passed the Turing Test they are regardless of that already more consciously human than humans to begin with?

I neglected to mention, Major D, that I thought your personal caption for the “I am not a robot” meme was not only exceedingly clever but also extremely humorous.
