The latest sales figures from the United States Mint are a bit humdrum in terms of change or leading products. For most sold, six products have now ranked in the exact same positions for three weeks in a row. The top five are sets. This pattern seems likely to continue for a while — perhaps until January when new products launch.
Elsewhere, U.S. Mint stats showed lower volumes of sales with 43 products outperforming their prior weekly increases compared to 106 previously.
Three products posted negative weekly sales like in the previous report. Their reductions ranged from 1 to 25, with the latter tagged to the individually sold 2022-W Proof American Silver Eagle.

I guess since it isn’t summer these are the hazy lazy days of fall with no new Mint issues.
To limit is to hold back. We’ll have none of that here.
There certainly is a relative run on 2022 sets going on. But if the weekly sales pace listed in the article for each set continues the same for the next two weeks it will not be enough to deplete any of them this year.
Here’s the ranking based on available sets, as of 1:30 pm EST on Dec 15:
#1) AI Reverse Proof set (22GC): 4,889 available.
#2) Ltd Ed silver set (22RC): 10,745 available.
#3) Silver Proof set (22RH): 16,913 available.
#4) AI Proof set (22GA): 33,861 available.
#5) Uncirculated set (22RJ): 33,950 available
and the 3 roll women’s quarters is now down to 590, a little over 100 sold in the last week.
Which makes me think, Antonio, that for whatever reason I don’t seem to have all that much of a grasp I perhaps misspoke myself, and for all we know the Mint has a whole slew of new issues (seriously problematic or otherwise), in which case it would have behooved me to instead say that it was the lack of new releases that the otherwise ordinarily far more varied and active numismatic landscape was momentarily imbued with a slight sense of ennui.
“momentarily imbued with a slight sense of ennui”
Phrase of the Day! I love it and it’s descriptive, at least for me, of the last several months of coin offerings from the Mint.
Why thank you, Reb, for that kind designation! I do in fact prefer to be known for trying than for being trying.
and the mint has sold all 25003 of the 25000 limit of the colorized purple heart coins. awesome
Indeed. that’s a puzzling one.
it’s that
‘new math’ they teach in schools
Is it in any way related to how they are able to award 30 “First Places”?
more on math.
available 3 roll set now 649, so 50 or so people cancelled their subscription, or since you could get 3 set limit, maybe 15 or so cancelled, or, wink wink nudge nudge one of the people who can somehow order more than the limit cancelled his 50 since their may be a glut on the market of 2023 rolls. or the mint can’t count….
Avoiding conspiracy inclinations but always happy to give discredit were it is in greatest likelihood due, I cast my vote for the wink-nudgers of the coin reselling world, those canny profiteers and flippers who are infamous for engaging veritable legions of buying surrogates, and who subsequently are as bold in their cancellations as they are aggressive with their original purchases.
If the three extra dollars are hand-painted they will be toasted as the cream of the crop.
how many other coins were sold beyond the actual advertised limits? and what is the time limit on selling coins as i believe there is still some from 2018 being sold.
actually 2017 still being sold
Lee, by “advertised limits” if you mean like the 2022 Purple Heart colorized dollar exceeding the stated product limit of 25,000, that’s the only instance that I’m aware of where the Mint has exceeded the product limit.
Major D and LEE,
I concur. No matter how hard I try, I can’t think of or for that matter find any other coins aside from that single example that exceeded their allotted mintage limit.
Lee, I’m not sure what you mean by “advertised limits”? Generally speaking, the coins are only made in the year which they have stamped on them- the exceptions to this that I know of being error coins, a few commemoratives (e.g.1993 WW II and 1993 Jefferson) and a couple AI Reverse dollars (the 2019 GA released in 2020, and the 2020 SC released in 2021). The Mint will sell its available product numbers until they are sold out, however long this takes, with one big exception being commemorative coins which are only available in the year in which they’re offered.… Read more »
just thought of another- the 2020 Bush dollar coin & currency set issued in 2021. I’m sure there must be others I’m missing…..
One exception was the bicentennial coins
Yes, good catch- I figured I was missing something: released in 1975 but carrying the 1976 date.
The Mint doesn’t mess around with the concept of coming to a dead stop regarding commemorative coins at the exact ordained moment. At precisely 11:59 P.M. of the last available sales date as previously announced all the commemorative coins for that year disappear from the Mint’s website aka online catalog never to be seen again.
I bought some NLB and NPH commemoratives early in the year with the intro pricing. I’ve considered buying some more but cannot get past now paying an extra $5 per coin. It’s surprising to see some winning auctions on eBay going for less than the Mint’s intro prices.
It has been both my observation and experience, Major D, that with a few memorable and primarily older exceptions the Mint’s commemorative coins haven’t held their values well, so that even just getting one’s initial Mint price outlay for one back via a secondary (or tertiary, etc.) sale might require a bit of luck.
Kaiser, the vast majority of Mint products are cost losers that do not hold their value when you factor in cost of inflation. I wouldn’t just single out commemoratives.
Generally speaking, I’ve found it’s the newer Mint products that hold or exceed their value, at least in the first handful of years after becoming unavailable or sold out at the Mint. The “older sets” (after say 1968) by and large lose a lot of value- but of course there are exceptions to this.
Perhaps a useful way to think of that is to employ a motion picture screening analogy. When films first appear at the theaters the tickets practically fly out of the booths and the money does the reverse, all of it heavily skewed toward the beginning of a new movie release. After that initial burst of interest when the film isn’t such a bright new sensation anymore the gate receipts tend to experience a rather steep decline. It seems that with people’s attention spans in general and hence their dedication in particular seeming to grow ever shorter, newer Mint releases may… Read more »
