Gold and Palladium Rise Thursday, May 13

1

Precious metals split Thursday with gold and palladium gaining and silver and platinum falling. Gold’s increase was its first in three sessions.

Gold for June delivery rose $1.20, or 0.07%, to settle at $1,824 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

"The U.S. dollar index lost its overnight highs and that also aided the gold market bulls. Silver is a bit weaker today on some mild profit taking, but both metals remain in price uptrends on the daily charts, to suggest the path of least resistance for prices will remain sideways to higher in the near term," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.

Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,808.40 to a high of $1,829.10. They lost 0.7% on Wednesday, they shed 0.08% on Tuesday, and they rose 0.3% on Monday for their highest settlement since Feb. 10.

Silver for May delivery declined 18.5 cents, or 0.7%, to settle at $27.059 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $26.78 and $27.33. They dropped 1.5% on Wednesday, they rose 0.6% on Tuesday for their best close since Feb. 25, and they edged up 0.05% on Monday.

In other precious metals futures Thursday:

  • July platinum fell $19.40, or 1.6%, to $1,206.50 an ounce, ranging from $1,200.50 to $1,224.10.

  • Palladium for June delivery added $15.60, or 0.6%, to $2,864.60 an ounce, trading between $2,798.50 and $2,901. A week ago Monday, May 3, palladium scored a record settlement of $2,981.40 an ounce.

Recieved my US Mint catalog. There is listed a silver reverse proof 2 coin set and a gold 1/10 oz reverse proof set in a DESIGNERS EDITION. Does anyone know what is going to be in these 2 sets? Will they contain a type 1 and type 2 or will both coins be type 2???
