The U.S. Mint’s five most popular products for the week ending Sept. 6 was the 2020 Proof Set, the proof and uncirculated 2020-W American Silver Eagles, and two recently released colorized coins which celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (www.hoophall.com).
The pair of colorized Basketball coins advanced during their first full week of sales by a combined 6,818 pieces, lifting their total through the ten days of their release to 45,605 pieces. Individually, the colorized half dollar is at 24,996 coins for 33.3% of its allotted 75,000 mintage and the colorized silver dollar is at 20,609 coins for 27.5% of its 75,000 mintage.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 169 numismatic products. Sixty-four of them outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 39 previously. Eight products increased by more than 1,000 units, matching prior last report.
In addition, 6 products saw their sales reduced, also like in the previous report. All of the reductions were modest.

From the dismal first day of sales figures of the basketball colorized coins, to the 3-day sales to the 10-day sales figures – collectors have spoken, and they obviously do not like these highly overpriced, privately colored by an outside company, coins. To use a phrase from President Theodore Roosevelt about the coins of his era, they are of “atrocious hideousness.”

They are colorized by LulaRose Company at their factory in MA, & owned by The Clancy Group Company of Massachusetts under a U.S. Mint private vendor contract. The average cost to the U.S. Mint to colorize each coin was about $5 paid to LulaRose Company for the 150,000 Basketball coins in total.

Did 88 coins that cost $65 get returned to the mint while the same ones are advertised for sale on ebay for over $1,000?

The $1000 price on ebay is an imaginarte price not the real price. If the mint sells it for 66 then thats the real price or the mint is being rip off lol. Might as well ask for $30,000 lol. It’s not a $1000 coin or else the mint Will be selling it for $1000. Get it. The mint is already making a profit at $66 cause in reality is only worth melt silver or about $30.
I don’t think its imaginitive if a simple search for completed auctions shows people are paying that amount. The mint made an obscene profit as always. Profits are not a bad thing. If the Mint offered the coin for $1,000 I bet you could see an asinine asking price of $30,000 on eBay. People can have profitable asking prices, however its only worth what one is willing to pay. Whats funny is, I can only imagine what collectors would say if the mint offered an ounce of Silver for $1,000. p.s. I love the “What If” game.
Not Even hsn bought the silver colorized dollar. That tells You something right there, if not Even the Big companies that usually Buy all this stuff then the mint is in trouble. HSN and Meazck were selling and hawking the colorized coins. He stated on one of the shows “That it has sold out.” I called him out in the comments section of the HSN YouTube video. He out and out lied.
