Gold Logs Eleventh Gain in Twelve Sessions

Gold prices rose 0.5% on Thursday, June 13

For a second straight day, gold, silver and palladium gained while platinum declined. Gold’s win was its eleventh in twelfth sessions.

Gold for August delivery settled up $6.90, or 0.5%, to $1,343.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

"While the Fed might not be moving toward a ‘July’ rate cut, enough analysts in the marketplace are predicting the Fed is moving to cut and that underpins gold and silver prices above the June lows," said analysts at Zaner Metals according to MarketWatch.

Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,335.90 to a high of $1,347. They added 0.4% on Wednesday, gained 0.1% on Tuesday, and fell 1.3% on Monday. Last Friday, they ended at $1,346.10 an ounce for their highest settlement since Feb. 20.

Silver for July delivery rose 13.9 cents, or 0.9%, to close at $14.892 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $14.72 and $14.93. They climbed almost 0.1% on Wednesday, moved up 0.7% on Tuesday, and tumbled 2.6% on Monday.

In other precious metals futures prices Thursday:

  • July platinum declined $1.10, or 0.1% to $809.40 an ounce, ranging from $805.40 to $814.80.

  • Palladium for September delivery surged $32.60, or 2.3%, to $1,438.20 an ounce, trading between $1,398 and $1,442.60.

London Precious Metals Prices

In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Wednesday PM to Thursday PM:

  • Gold gained $3.55, or 0.3%, to $1,335.90 an ounce.
  • Silver edged up a half cent to $14.795 an ounce.

LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
