US Mint Sales: 2019 Uncirculated Silver Eagle Debuts

The 2019 W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle realized sales of 82784 in five days

The United States Mint’s newest American Silver Eagle was its best-selling numismatic product of the week.

Released last Wednesday, May 29, the 1-ounce .999 fine uncirculated Silver Eagle from West Point logged 5-day sales of 82,784 for the slowest start in the annual series to date.

Sales of the past seven issues opened at 89,482 (2018); 111,224 (2017); 134,925 (2016); 127,872 (2015); 106,349 (2014); 104,570 (2013); and 123,801 (2012). After not having been produced for two years, pent-up demand boosted sales of the 2011-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. It debuted with early sales of 184,967.

Elsewhere, the American Legion Silver Dollar and Medal Set moved up another 1,054 units for a 14-day total of 8,466. The set is near 85% of its maximum sales.

In another highlight, the uncirculated 2019 Mint Set topped the 200,000 milestone. The set of 20 uncirculated coins advanced 10,743 units for a 20-day total of 200,681. By comparison, it took more than five months for last year’s set to reach the same point.

The set was the Mint’s second strongest weekly seller.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 146 numismatic products. Forty-nine of them outperformed their prior weekly gains against 44 previously. Not counting the new Silver Eagle so as to compare apples to apples, 6 products increased by more than 1,000 units to match the previous report. In addition, 4 products saw their sales reduced against 3 previously. The reductions were modest.
