Gold and silver futures changed modestly Tuesday as investors looked more toward stocks than safe-havens.
Gold for June delivery slipped $1.80, or 0.1%, to settle at $1,264.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Investors are in a slight risk-on mode right now and it’s leaning on gold a bit," Reuters quoted James Steel, chief metals analyst for HSBC Securities in New York. "Gold is still correcting but the pace of decline appears to be moderating."
Gold prices traded from a low of $1,258.30 to a high of $1,269.50. They fell 2.1% in the prior session after surging 1.7% on Friday to a near 15-month high.
Elsewhere, silver for July delivery added 0.3 cents, or less than 0.1%, to settle at $17.092 an ounce. Silver prices ranged from $16.92 to $17.18. They plunged 2.5% on Monday.

July platinum gained $2.50, or 0.2%, to $1,049.30 an ounce, trading between $1,042.10 and $1,056.80.
- Palladium for June delivery added $8.10, or 1.4%, to $592.20 an ounce, ranging from $578.65 to $597.80.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold declined $2.45, or 0.2%, to $1,262.80 an ounce.
- Silver declined 29 cents, or 1.7%, to $17.04 an ounce.
