The latest collector product from the United States Mint, the 2015 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set, went on sale today for $16.95.
These annual sets debuted in 2007 alongside the Presidential dollar series and they feature the coins of a year with portraits of four former presidents. Each set has eight uncirculated dollars. Four are from the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia Mint and four are from U.S. Mint in Denver. This year’s set includes the 2015 Presidential $1 Coins with portraits and inscriptions:
HARRY S. TRUMAN, IN GOD WE TRUST, 33rd PRESIDENT and 1945 – 1953. (Designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.)
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, IN GOD WE TRUST, 34th PRESIDENT and 1953 – 1961. (Designed and sculpted by Joseph Menna.)
JOHN F. KENNEDY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 35th PRESIDENT and 1961 – 1963. (Designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.)
LYNDON B. JOHNSON, IN GOD WE TRUST, 36th PRESIDENT and 1963 – 1969. (Designed and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso.)
All the $1 coins are within a durable folder that includes short biographies and portraits of each president.
The coins are inside rotatable blisters for protection and easy viewing.
The obverse or heads side of each dollar bears the portraits and above inscriptions while reverses share Don Everhart’s rendition of the Statue of Liberty with inscriptions of ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ and the ‘$1’ denomination.
Another trait that is common to all dollar coins is letterings that are incused along their edges. They include ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM,’ the year ‘2015’ and the ‘P’ or ‘D’ mint mark to denote their mint of origin. The edges of the coins are visible through the set’s protective blisters.
Finally, each dollar weighs 8.100 grams, has a diameter of 26.49 mm (1.043 inches), and has composition of 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel with the remaining balance in copper.
