On Thursday, July 10, the United States Mint released its 2014 Herbert Hoover $1 Coin Cover.
Sold at a regular price of $19.95 with a 10% discount given to subscribers, this latest product marks the 31st issue in the Mint’s American Presidency $1 Coin Cover Series and includes coins honoring Hoover, who was the 31st President of the United States.
Coin covers hold two Herbert Hoover Presidential $1 Coins from the first day of production. One of the dollars was struck on Feb. 5, 2014 at the Denver Mint and the other was struck on Feb. 19, 2014 at the Philadelphia Mint.
As seen in the topmost image, the face of the display card features a portrait of President Hoover, the United States A Flag for All Seasons (Forever®) stamp, and a postmark of July 10, 2014, West Branch, IA. The postmark highlights the day of the coin cover’s issue, and the location is a reminder of Hoover’s childhood home.
As seen to the right, backs offer information about the president, the dollar coin and the coin cover.
Design of Herbert Hoover Presidential $1 Coin
Obverses (heads side) of Herbert Hoover Presidential $1 Coins feature a profile likeness of President Hoover as designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. Inscriptions around the portrait read, "HERBERT HOOVER," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "31th PRESIDENT" and "1929 – 1933."
Reverse (tails side) of all Presidential dollars have a rendition of the Statue of Liberty as designed and sculpted by Don Everhart, with surrounding inscriptions of, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "$1."
Edges of Presidential $1 Coins have inscribed letterings that state, "2014," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the mint mark "P" or "D."
