Limited to only 1,000, the Charlie Chaplin gold coin is composed of 1/4 ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The 1 ounce, 99.9% pure Charlie Chaplin silver coin has a larger mintage at 5,000 and has the added feature of lenticular lenses that depicts the actor moving as one of his most memorable characters — the Tramp.

"These tribute coins celebrate this talented and unique artist, and the decades of laughter that he brought to the world," said Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director, Ron Currie. "With an extremely limited mintage, each release reflects the global phenomenon of The Tramp over the last 100 years."

Sir Charles Spencer “Charlie” Chaplin was born in London, England and spent his youth there under difficult circumstances. At age 19, he moved to America and began a long and illustrious film career which would ultimately span over 80 shorts and features.

Despite his film work dating back a century, he is still held in high regards for his likable comedic style and contributions to the movie industry. The gold and silver coins issued by the Perth Mint honor Chaplin’s birth 125 years ago as well as the 100 years of laughter his talent brought the public.

Shown on the reverse of the gold coin is a portrait of Charlie Chaplin as The Tramp. Inscriptions include THE TRAMP, 100 YEARS OF LAUGHTER, and 1914 and 2014.

The silver coin reverse features lenticular lenses showing Chaplin "jauntily walking as depicted in the closing scenes of the 1928 silent movie, The Circus." CHARLIE CHAPLIN is inscribed above and below the imagery along with 1 oz 999 SILVER.

These coins are struck as legal tender of Tuvalu. Face values include 25 dollars for the gold coin and 1 dollar for the silver. These face values are inscribed on the obverse of each coin along with the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
