May turned out to be an exciting month for collectors, especially after a couple annual core sets were released. To end May and start June, the U.S. Mint plans to release an America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin followed by a commemorative Star-Spangled Banner bicentennial silver dollar set.
Beginning Tuesday, May 29, the 2012 El Yunque National Forest Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin will be released. This 99.9% pure silver issue will be $204.95 each, the same price as the still-available 2011-dated strikes in the series.
Upon its launch, collectors will be able to purchase the coin honoring the national forest in Puerto Rico via the U.S. Mint website on this product page.
Coming Friday, June 1, the 2012 Star-Spangled Banner Bicentennial Silver Dollar Set will be available. More details are expected soon. Per a brochure mailed by the U.S. Mint, the set will contain a proof silver dollar plus memorabilia celebrating the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner, the national anthem of the United States written by Francis Scott Key.
Already in the U.S. Mint’s line up are the Star-Spangled Banner commemorative $5 gold proof and uncirculated coins, $1 silver proof and uncirculated silver dollars, and a two-coin set containing both proof strikes. The commemorative coins for sale now and the set to be added will be found on the U.S. Mint page located here.
Each of the new products will be available on their respective issue date beginning at 12:00 noon ET.
