Buying activity increased for U.S. Mint numismatic products following three somewhat humdrum weeks. The launch of bags and rolls of El Yunque quarters lifted demand for other quarter products, American Eagle coins were hotter, several annual sets improved and many Presidential $1 coin offerings were up, the latest U.S. Mint sales figures show.
In all, 62 products improved over prior weekly sales versus 21 out-performers noted previously.
El Yunque Quarters Sales Debut
El Yunque quarters were released in bags and rolls on Friday, February 6. The United States Mint registered debut sales that show up at the bottom of recent issues, although it must be noted that their first reported sales period of Friday through Monday was also the shortest. Numismatic American Eagle Coin Demand Robust
American Eagles continue to perform well. The 2011-W American Eagle Silver uncirculated coin, appearing second in the U.S. Mint’s best-selling list for a second straight week, shot up 14,286 against the prior 4,455. Two of the remaining 2011-dated American Eagle Gold products also improved. As a group and despite recent price increases, they rose 1,028 against 438.
Last Wednesday’s $100 price hike for the 2011-W American Eagle Platinum proof coin appears to have damaged its demand as sales rose 156 compared to the previous 272.
US Mint Sales: Bullion Coins
Demand did decline for American Eagle Gold products. 6,500 ounces of the 22-karat gold bullion coins were sold in the last seven days versus the 12,500 ounces from the prior seven-day period.
American Silver Eagles, however, excelled. They jumped 670,000 against 560,000.
