Sales of 2017 Australian Kookaburra Silver Bullion Coins officially started Monday, Oct. 10, 2016. The newest editions feature two laughing kookaburras perched on a wooden fence.

Struck to a brilliant uncirculated finish in 99.9% pure silver, the coins belong to the Perth Mint’s oldest bullion series which was introduced in 1990. The series features annually changing kookaburra designs, attracting both investors and collectors.

The new coins are available in three sizes — 1 kilo, 10oz and 1oz. Only 500,000 1oz coins will be released. No mintage limit applies to the 1 kilo and 10oz coins.

Reverse inscriptions include AUSTRALIA KOOKABURRA, 2017, the coin’s weight, 999 SILVER, and the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Obverses bear the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and carry inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and either 1 DOLLAR, 10 DOLLARS, or 30 DOLLARS.

Why is this coin only .999 and many others now are .9999?

Hi Spinger,

The Perth mint has only released one four 9’s silver bullion coin. It is the 2016 Australian 1 oz Kangaroo 9999 silver bullion coin. It is a stunning coin and due to it being the first 4 – 9’s 1 oz bullion for the Perth, it has sold at record numbers. Worth a look and a buy.
