Featuring a rimless high relief design in an antique finish, the Perth Mint of Australia has released the 2014 Poseidon High Relief 2 oz Silver Coin.

The Poseidon coin appears as the second issue in the Perth Mint’s Gods of Olympus series. Maximum mintage is only 1,500, aiding in an expected sell-out.
"In ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon was worshiped as the God of the Sea," describes the Perth Mint in a release. "Adept at gathering clouds and creating violent storms, Poseidon was responsible for countless shipwrecks and the drowning of many souls, yet he also held the power to grant a ship a successful voyage, and to save those in danger."
That prediction of a quick sell-out is supported by the first program issue, featuring Zeus, which sold out within hours of release. The series is scheduled to end later this year with a third coin depicting Hades.
Poseidon Coin Designs and Specifications
Perth Mint artist Tom Vaughan created the design found on the reverse of the 2014 Poseidon High Relief 2 oz Silver Coin. It depicts a bearded Poseidon holding his trident while riding the waves on his chariot. The chariot is pulled by two hippocampi and dolphins can be seen in the background.

Adding to the high relief design, POSEIDON is inscribed below. As mentioned, the image is rimless and featured in an antique finish.
The obverse offers Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 2 oz 999 SILVER, 2014, 2 DOLLARS and TUVALU. These last inscriptions indicate that the coin is struck as legal tender of the island nation of Tuvalu with a face value of 2 dollars.
