Congressional members have been voting on a series of bills as they prepare to leave Washington and return to their home districts to focus full time on their re-elections.
One of the bills would authorize American Palladium Eagles. The other would authorize Proof American Eagles, giving them equal weight to bullion coins. Both were introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on September 22, 2010. Each were voted on exactly one week later — supersonic speed for coin legislation. They passed on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, and now await action in the U.S. Senate.

Make it a streak of two. United States Mint product sales improved for a second straight week.
Record gold prices, 30-year high silver prices, and the debuting of two new numismatic products certainly supported the numbers.
All but one U.S. Mint bullion coin shot higher. The exception was the half-ounce American Gold Eagle. It remained unchanged. Other fractional sizes joined in simultaneous advances on Wednesday, an occurrence that has become rare since their initial launch on June 10, 2010. With still one day left in September for sales, the one-ounce, quarter-ounce and tenth-ounce Gold Eagle have exactly doubled their August tallies.

The 24-karat 2010 American Buffalo Gold bullion coins are no longer available, the United States Mint told its authorized buyers in a memo late last week.
The US Mint’s inventory of the .9999 fine gold coin is depleted, and there are no plans to strike more this year. The numismatic proof 2010-W American Gold Buffalo coins are still on sale, although as collector pieces they carry higher premiums.
