Royal Canadian Mint Marks Legion’s 100th Anniversary With New Gold and Silver Coins

1

A century after The Royal Canadian Legion was incorporated, the Royal Canadian Mint is marking the milestone with new gold and silver collectibles honoring the organization’s 100th anniversary. The centennial-themed lineup includes a 2026 $100 gold coin, a 2026 silver dollar, and a 2026 Silver Proof Set.

The reverse of the 2026 $100 gold coin, designed by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw, presents a split composition intended to reflect the Legion’s past, present, and future. One side features two contemporary Legion members in dress uniform, while the other draws on First World War-era imagery, including a Canadian infantryman, an S.E.5a fighter aircraft, and the silhouette of HMCS Niobe, a vessel tied to the early years of Canada’s naval service. Poppies appear above and below the scenes, bridging both halves of the design and reinforcing the theme of ongoing Remembrance.

For the proof 2026 silver dollar, Canadian artist Steve Hepburn created a reverse showing two Legion members standing in Remembrance before a maple leaf element taken from the Legion’s official crest. Below, the design incorporates 14 poppies representing Canada’s provinces and territories, along with the Legion’s international branches, and adds a forget-me-not flower — a symbol of Remembrance in Newfoundland and Labrador. A banner bearing the dates "1926" and "2026" overlays the floral arrangement, with three crest poppies centered within the ribbon.

The 2026 Silver Proof Set includes a selectively rose gold-plated version of the silver dollar.

All Legion-related pieces share an obverse featuring the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, created by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
