More than 500 coins from Denmark and elsewhere in northern Europe that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) and are pedigreed to the L. E. Bruun Collection are being offered in a pair of upcoming auction sessions presented by Stack’s Bowers Galleries. Online bidding is already underway for L. E. Bruun Collection — A Corpus of Scandinavian Numismatics Part III: Session 1, which ends on October 29, 2025, and Session 2, which ends on October 30.

A top lot in the auction is a Norway 1652 FG 3 Speciedaler graded NGC AU Details (Session 2, lot 12070), with an estimate of €120,000 to €160,000 (about $139,000 to $186,000). Showing Frederik III, who ruled Denmark and Norway from 1648 to 1670, this coin is the only one of its kind known to exist, according to the auction house.
Meanwhile, a Denmark 1612 Rose Noble graded NGC MS 62 (Session 1, lot 11186) has an estimate of €90,000 to €130,000 (about $104,000 to $151,000). Inspired by the English Rose Nobles, this coin depicts King Christian IV, whose rule of just shy of 60 years is the longest in Scandinavian history.

A Danish entrepreneur who made his fortune in butter and real estate, Lars Emil Bruun amassed a collection of thousands of numismatic pieces from Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. NGC, which was selected to certify the collection, encapsulated the coins with a special certification label that highlights this renowned pedigree. In September 2024, the first in a series of auctions of the collection was held, led by a Denmark 1496 Noble graded NGC AU 55 that realized €1.2 million (about $1.33 million), a record for any coin from Scandinavia.
Additionally, NGC has created a sortable and searchable gallery of high-resolution images for the more than 4,100 coins, tokens and medals that have been offered from the collection so far. When the L. E. Bruun Collection auctions are complete, the NGC image gallery will easily exceed what is currently the largest, the one for the Eric P. Newman Collection, which has 7,712 items. NGC’s image galleries can be accessed at NGCcoin.com/gallery.

Who was it that posted for 25MPM (Marine Privy) ats =48,000? (I saw the same number posted on Collector Universe). I checked just now 25MPM ats=87,000 and for the ABPP program 25MPMAB ats=1061. I checked earlier this week. I thought 25MPM ats = 89,500 (don’t know if I remembered correctly) and 25MPMAB ats=10,000
Sorry if this has already been reported. I looked back at Collector’s Universe and the 25MPM ats has been reported to be 87,000, 89,500 and 84,400 in the October time frame.
VinnieC, on 10/20 I reported on CN about the 25MPMAB having an “ats” of 47,500. In my notes from 10/7, I had 48,000. On 10/23(12:43am) prior to 10,000 being shifted over to the ABPP inventory, “ats” was at 99,500. On 10/25, my notes indicated the “ats” for 25MPM as being at 89,500, so you remembered correctly! Thanks for the heads up of “ats” now dropping to 87,000. Hmm… kind of makes me wonder, where 2,500 coins disappeared to? At 8:32pm this evening, 25MPMAB was at 814 and still is, as of 9:35pm. PS Go Vladimir Jr.! 2-1 Toronto in the… Read more »
Thanks @Caliskier. I thought it was you that report the initial ats value, but I couldn’t find it in CN with all the different news articles. Collector’s Universe is easier to search. They reported that ats flip flopping between 87,000 and 84,400 and back.
Rick or E1, curious if this Top Pop, 1of 3, none higher, PCGS MS67+ Bicentennial 1776-1976 Kennedy Half over at GC, with a starting bid of $3,900 might be on your radar or in your future? It’s a Toner! “1976 Kennedy Half Dollar Clad PCGS MS-67+ (Toned)” Close of auction in 11 days, 22 hours(Nov 9). PS No bids so far and PCGS has a suggested price of $6,000. Coin highlighted in the article by Charles Morgan for CWeek. “Actually, this GreatCollections Bicentennial Half Dollar IS a Big Deal”(10/22/25)

Cali,
I have a number of those in a box in high grade (raw). The “+” is the price justifier and toning brings big money these days too. Maybe I should get busy.
Actually, you can buy the 1976-S Silver Kennedy’s in MS68 all day long on eBay for $90-$100. JMHO, but I think these 76-S Silvers in an “8” are way undervalued.
Additionally, the 1992-2010 Proof Silver Kennedy’s in NGC PR70 UC can be bought on eBay for $80-100 each all day long. Again, JMHO, but these are way undervalued too. Such a beautiful coin. I’ve been upgrading my 69’s to 70 for cheap. Good time to build a complete set in NGC PR70 DCAM. Many moons ago, I sent dozens of these in to PCGS and NGC – NGC is the strictest when it comes to early proof silver Kennedy’s.
Waiting for Rick to weigh in.
Cheers Braah
Tuesday Nite Eye Candy.
Cali that’s a really nice one, the Clad Bi-’76 toner. Those are not on my radar, maybe they should be! I have GC saved searches for the Kennedy 76-S’s, 2014 50th coins, the ’64 PF’s, and the ’64-70 Business Silver coins… E1, that is one nice pile of Dual-Dates in the Safe-Flips. And those Proof UCAM/DCAM’s are to die for = Kennedy-Kandy! Thanks for sharing the pics ✓ I have one Dual-Date 1976-S Silver in MS, and still on the lookout for just the right PF70-S Dual-Date. Same with an AH ’64 PF… I have this Top-Popper below because you… Read more »
