The United States Mint has unveiled images and released pricing details for its 25th Anniversary 2025-W Proof Sacagawea Gold Coin. Struck in 24-karat gold, the commemorative piece marks 25 years since the Sacagawea dollar first entered circulation and is set to debut on July 31 at noon ET.

Often referred to as the "golden dollar" for its distinctive color, the Sacagawea $1 coin was introduced in 2000 in as part of an effort to establish a widely used small-size dollar coin. That push ended in 2002, when circulating production ceased and the coins were produced exclusively for collectors. In 2009, the Mint launched the Native American $1 Coin Program, which retained the original Sacagawea obverse while introducing annually rotating reverse designs honoring Native contributions to U.S. history.
The anniversary Sacagawea gold coin closely follows the original 2000 design – including the omission of inscriptions typically found on the Mint’s gold issues, such as weight and fineness – in this case, half ounce and .9999 fine. Struck at the West Point Mint, it carries the ‘W’ mint mark and features a proof finish with a mirror-like background and frosted design elements.
Pricing will follow the Mint’s recently revised pricing grid, which adjusts based on the average gold price set by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA). If gold remains in the current $3,300.00 to $3,349.99 range at launch – the tier currently used for other half-ounce collector coins – the Sacagawea gold coin would debut at $2,175.
As of now, the coin’s product page omits several standard details, including mintage, full specifications, and any household order limits. When the concept for the anniversary dollar was presented earlier this year to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC), the Mint indicated that the coin would have a diameter just 0.020 inches larger than the original dollar.
