The Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation (ACEF) is accepting nominations for the Alan Kreuzer Memorial Award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the fight against against counterfeit coins, paper money, and/or fake third-party encapsulation holders.
"The Alan Kreuzer Memorial Award recognizes the anti-counterfeiting efforts of collectors, dealers, law enforcement agents or others who are diligently trying to protect the numismatic marketplace," said ACEF President John Albanese.
"Previous recipients have included individuals who helped catch counterfeiters or identified suspects selling fakes, or significantly helped combat counterfeiting by generously donating to the foundation," noted Albanese.
Named in honor of the late Alan "Al" Kreuzer, a Castro Valley, California, coin dealer, the award highlights his efforts in exposing counterfeit third-party certification holders and fake insert labels. Following his passing in 2016, his daughter, Chandra, donated $50,000 to help establish the Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force, now part of ACEF’s mission.
Nominations for the 2025 Alan Kreuzer Memorial Award are open until March 31. To submit a nomination, visit the ACEF’s website or email info@acefonline.org. Submissions must include the nominee’s full name, title, business affiliation, contact information, and a brief explanation of why they should be considered for the award.
ACEF continues to support collectors and dealers through initiatives like its directory of 239 vetted Trusted Experts, which helps users locate reputable professionals within 50 miles of their location. The organization also offers a service at major coin shows to apply COPY marks to counterfeit coins, ensuring compliance with the Hobby Protection Act while helping identify fakes and make them legal to own.
The Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation operates solely on donations. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, contributions to ACEF are tax-deductible. Supporters can donate by completing the online donation form.
I’ve seen a few pictures of counterfeit slab in news stories and coin blogs. I’ve never seen one live. I’m always interested in characteristics in detecting them so as not to get stung.
s
1) When you check the cert#, the real coin looks nothing like the fake coin(if a TrueView photo, or prior auction photo exists. 2) The barcode doesn’t match up to anything, usually copied & pasted to multiple other labels. An attempt to look legit. The label is generally off, usually the font, the ink color, or both. But they’re getting better(China). 3) The NFC Logo is not present on the slab(2020–now). An NFC chip will bring the coin image/info to your Smartphone. 4) The PCGS Logo is not present on the slab. It’s always there on legit plastic. 5) The… Read more »

My Nomination for the 2025 Alan Kreuzer Memorial Award goes to a person named Jack D. Young. He is constantly calling out and sharing the fakes he’s found over the years(maybe he’s already been recognized?)…
Also of note is @ burfle23 over at CU(same guy?). Burfle23 is always posting fake China Junk.
I have reported a few on eBay, and one on Etsy, but it seems futile.
There are thousands of fakes out there, diligence & research is key to not get ripped off. Unslabbed coins are a big problem too, so slab haters–don’t even bother…
Scary stuff. Thanks for the slabtastic information.
From a previous thread: “Sam-I-am Not trying to start a political discussion, but does POTUS have the Constitutional authority to order the USM to either produce or not produce any given circulating coin?” The Treasury Secretary oversees the United States Mint but cannot eliminate the “use” of the cent. However, they can reduce their production. An executive order from the President of the United States is not necessary. The Treasury Secretary has the authority to direct the United States Mint. Treasury Secretary Bessent criticized Yellen’s scheduling of Treasury offerings, but when given the chance to change it, he adhered… Read more »
So the DC Comics Universe is still coming to a coin shop near you?
Every department and agency will do whatever the Prez says, legal or not.
Something like Biden did constantly?
Clearly you live in an alternate universe.
No,actually I am living firmly in reality.
You think your “reality” will shelter you from what this Prez does? Good luck with that. Oh, and have a nice day!
I wish I had been sheltered from the corrupt and incompetent Biden! This Prez is a Godsend and a great relief. By the way, have an excellent day!
I completely disagree with you but this is a place for coin talk, Coinman. If you want to talk politics, change your name to Politicsman and take it elsewhere.
Uh, I think your buddy Major turned it into a political discussion!! Call it correctly if you’re the new Umpire on here! All you have to do is “read” the thread! It’s very obvious! Why don’t you call a Spade a Spade? You’re not sticking up for the thread, you’re sticking up for your Politics and Your buddy and His Politics! I’ve said it numerous times before, please keep the Politics off of this forum! None of us are going to be convinced by the other to change our beliefs so why even bother! It only creates drama!! Let’s keep… Read more »
I wholeheartedly agree with the second paragraph and summarily reject the first.
I’m not the “new umpire” and have never desired to be one. I just get tired of reading your and others’ political takes on a coin site comments section. I told Major D to take it elsewhere. I say the same to you, E1, Coinman, and others: “If it’s political, take it elsewhere”.
‘Nuff said.
Major D:
I know you’re frustrated with the state of things and you know that I agree with many/most of your political positions. However, keep in mind that this is primarily a coin hobby site. Please resist the temptation to unload your political thoughts. There are more appropriate forums for that discourse. As my mama once said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say ….” The modern equivalent might be “Don’t feed the trolls and don’t be one either.”
Peace.
This is personal, not political. You do not get to throw sh*t at someone and expect to get honey back.
You forgot the fearful rubber stamping Congress…
Yes, that too.
the 2/9/25 sales report shows zero sales. that can’t be right – they are just publishing dummy data.
I noticed the same thing, William. It looks to me like someone at the Mint took the Feb 2 report and posted it as the Feb 9 one.
Uh you expect credibility, accuracy, honesty or candor from the current t USM…. Credibility NON EXISTENT sales way down, as Cag know time to really jack price$ try selling that 2026 Clad proof set you paid $90 for…..
GLD just Closed at Another All Time Closing High.
GLD closed at $270.31 (24×5 trading may cause price variation).
Mr Cag, Please pardon my ignorance, but could you explain to me exactly what your last line above means? GLD closed at $270.31 (24×5 trading may cause price variation. I have zero knowledge or experience with stocks, bonds or GLD & SLV. I would appreciate it if you’d share as simply as possible without going into extreme detail. My retirement was with PERS in Alaska and I’m a Tier 3. Starting in about 2005, the Alaska PERS retirement switched to Tier 4 which meant you had a 401K for ALL new hires. The folks that were Tiers 1, 2, &… Read more »
AKBob, ”GLD closed at $270.31 (24×5 trading may cause price variation.” GLD is a $81billion ETF(Exchange traded fund). It is the largest physical Gold backed ETF in the world. ETFs are much better than the old mutual funds that most have with corporate 401ks or 403bs. GLD tracks the price of Gold bullion. JP Morgan is the largest owner of non governmental Gold in the world. JP Morgan is the custodian of the GLD ETF. JP Morgan is the largest bank in the United States. Normal closing time for the United States stock exchanges are 4PM ET. I’m able to… Read more »
Mr Cag,
Thank you. I was really wondering exactly what the 24×5 was and now I know. Why is bullion GLD $270.31 when gold spot is $2900+? I’m not understanding exactly what the dollar amount ($270.31) is/means. What is the correlation. Again, please pardon my ignorance and it’s kind of embarrassing to even ask this on a public forum, hopefully there’s a few others on here that are like myself, ignorant! 😉
AKBob, $270.31 is the closing price per share of GLD. It changes +/- every minute of the trading day. Each share of GLD represents 1/10 oz. of Gold. When the ETF started in 2004 it was a true 100% correlation. Currently the ETF has an annual expense ratio of 0.40%. So if you own $1,000.00 worth of stock you lose $40 annually. That is reflected in the current share price. Over the course of 20+ years you now have approximately 93% the price of Gold. The variance between 100% correlation and 93% correlation is 20 years worth of annual expense… Read more »
There are other Gold and Silver ETFs that have an annual expense ratio less than GLD or SLV, however those funds are not as liquid and are not allowed to be traded 24×5.
In my personal accounts I trade mostly pre-market and after hours.
For my clients I mostly trade during normal stock market hours because of liquidity.
Mr Cag, okay, knowing the $270.31 is a 1/10th oz gold helps me understand it a whole lot more! Thank you for the easy information. BTW, you are NOT giving me Financial Advise in my option!! Thank you for explaining the GLD.
It’s always best to get financial advice from an unknown source on a chat site. No disclosures, no identity, no fiduciary accountability or responsibility, no problem. I’d buy, buy, buy whatever he’s peddling!!!
Major D,
STFU!!!
It’s great that your retirement is thru a state-funded program. And here I thought all you reds were against entitlement programs.
Major Dik Head, What does your post have to do with coins? Additionally, your combative responses are beginning to resemble those of Senza’s. Your Anti-Trumpian and Anti-Democracy agenda is obviously your true impetus here. I know for sure that Kaiser’s and Senza’s graphic pics were identical in size, crafted with the same editor, and used identical fonts (Kaiser = Senza). You being Kaiser’s “Robin” also makes you suspect. Just so you are aware, Kaiser’s and Senza’s accounts were simultaneously deleted by the ADMIN for making threats in the early AM. You should start your own feed on “X” where you… Read more »
How right you are E-1! I couldn’t have said it better than that!
Coinman,
Thank you for your contribution here. Good for You sticking up for yourself and others! Thanks again! 😉
Thank you!!! Finally some clarity!! It’s getting out of hand and ridiculous! I Hope this stops and we can all get back to what we have in common, coin collecting! We ALL collect differently! We collect what we like AND can afford. Some are into clad, silver, sets, Commemoratives, ASE’s and/or AGE’s! For years I couldn’t afford gold but I never was unhappy reading about others here purchasing and collecting gold. Now, I’m into gold. I still love silver but I prefer gold. There’s a couple silver coins I still purchase and if a good silver coin or medal is… Read more »
AKBob,

“We live in turbulent, highly political times. It’s too bad when this site can’t be a respite to all of that.”
Major D
So E1, that quote was posted 8-9 days ago, yet the attacks from him only increased since then. Why?
Shock, Despair, Anger? I feel sorry for him myself.
His repeated public Vitriol towards anyone outside of his Political & Numi bubble became mundane & useless to me. I’ve never felt better since.
Give it a shot E, just ignore the madness and come back soon so we can talk about coins.
Later my friend.
Copy That Rick.
Cheers
Nice a nice day!
