Sales figures for the clad 2024 Proof Set from the early days of its release are now available. Launched on Thursday, March 14, the set garnered 198,409 sales within the initial four days, securing its position as the U.S. Mint’s best-selling product for the week.
The debut is pretty much on par with last year’s set, as it recorded sales of 219,181 over a longer period of six days. The following table illustrates how the set’s sales start compares to others since 2007.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 433 numismatic products. The data revealed that 80 products outperformed their sales from the previous week, compared to 119 in the prior report. One product experienced a week-over-week increase of more than 1,000 units, compared to 2 in the previous report.
In addition, 9 products recorded negative weekly sales, while there were 3 in the previous report. Two of them were high, with 2024 American Women Quarters Proof Set falling by 3,409 and the U.S. Marine Corps 1 Ounce Silver Medal falling by 161.

It’s great to see that this site is back to coin talk!
I’ve been following the 2023 Proof set sales, and even with the weekly fluctuations it still looks to be the lowest proof set mintage since 1954. Likewise, the 2023 Mint set looks set to be lowest Mint set since 1958 (and it just became unavailable today). I think it bodes very well for future resale values on these sets.

CaliSkier, Thank you for the Gateway tip! I ordered a couple of those silver combos and see that they have shipped now. It’s quite a find to get proof coins for a bullion price, so I’m excited to see what they look like. As for gold, I wish I had bought in 2000 when it was $500. If buying today, do you think if will be $4,000+ in 20 years? CaliSkier, I’d forgotten about Wimpy. LOL there sure is a lot of wisdom there! I’m surprised too that the 2023 proof set is still available at 3pm after 6 hours back and after all of the notices were sent out. Perhaps the Mint has been sitting on 100,000 of them and they’ll be around for the rest of the year? It sure is frustrating not knowing what the available count is anymore to make an educated buying decision.

I saw that too yesterday. The Silver lost 39 pcs.
My first thought was that after the sales cutoff they tallied the orders we saw last week, and this week reflects those orders that were rejected due to missing info/declined Credit Cards, etc.?
But it could be call in cancellations too?
We may see more of this in the weeks to come. Perhaps even more once the coins have shipped, then returned for quality issues, or buyers remorse, or both.
I hope the Mint honors its word & doesn’t open things up for new sales. I always remember the 2008 platinum set I bought a few years ago. The price of the metal skyrocketed & the Mint closed off sales. When the price came down, they opened sales again at a significantly lower price.
I remember those W-Platinum coins, big $ for those in ’09 if I recall? Fractionals were in favor too!

Yep. That 4-coin set cost more than twice what the other year’s sets cost … until the Mint rereleased it later that year at a lower price. In terms of gaining back my investment, that was likely my worst purchase ever. Many, many catalytic converters are going to have to go missing before platinum ascends to such heights again.
Excited for these proof sets – I had “hoped” last year we’d see a metal variation to address cost rendering. Some sets one composition and other sets another weight. (No dice)
Hopefully this year they will “slip” this in our sets proof or Uncirc and make it FUN!!!

Mark it’s gotta be the big flippers. They purposely cherry pick for PF-70s & return them IMO. Quality too? Probably so.. I gave up on buying the Mint sets(Silver) in 2010 and just resorted to buying individual coins graded PF-70. I wanted a full Silver set of the America the Beautiful Quarters problem free. I’m very happy with my set now. They all match in the same type NGC holders/labels. No more after that–Too many quarter designs now IMO. I gave the 5oz. I ran across a Mint receipt from 2013 while digging around lately,(Not sure about spot $), but,
2012 ATB Qtr. Silver Proof Set was $36.95
And a 2013 Unc.ASE was $48.95
Not a huge difference ($5.00) for that time gap? But Geez, you’re correct. Current Mint pricing is getting ridiculous!

if you open the mint website and change the year you can go back as far as 2017 to see what items were selling for. so for example change 2024 to 2017 so it reads:

Tom, I’ve found that the Mint pricing is retroactively updated on some past items, depending on whether there was a price increase in a subsequent year before the item sold out. I recommend searching the Coin News articles if you ever want to know the release date pricing. They go back pretty far.
