Except for silver, precious metals declined on Wednesday, but their losses were each less than 1%. Silver, meanwhile, settled at another, more than 7.5-month high.
Gold for February delivery shed $6.80, or 0.4%, to finish at $1,818.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"The gold futures bulls have the firm overall near-term technical advantage. Prices are in a five-week-old uptrend on the daily bar chart. Bulls’ next upside price objective is to produce a close above solid resistance at $1,900.00. Bears’ next near-term downside price objective is pushing futures prices below solid technical support at $1,775.00," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures traded between $1,806.20 and $1,825.40. They tacked on 1.9% on Tuesday, ending at their best level since June 24, and they fell 1% on Monday.
Silver for March delivery rose 14.6 cents, or 0.6%, to close at $24.136 an ounce. The settlement was the highest since April 22. Silver futures ranged from $23.60 and $24.28. They surged 2.5% on Tuesday and they declined 1.3% on Monday.

January platinum dipped 20 cents, or 0.02%, to $1,038.70 an ounce, trading between $1,028.10 and $1,047.80.
- Palladium for March delivery lost $14.60, or 0.8%, to $1,922.10 an ounce, ranging from $1,909 to $1,945.
