In precious metals Tuesday, prices climbed sharply for palladium while they fell solidly for silver and platinum. Gold, meanwhile, was little changed.
Gold for December edged down 10 cents, or 0.01%, to settle at $1,776.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Bulls still have some momentum and are working on a fledgling price uptrend on the daily bar chart. Bulls’ next upside price objective is to produce a close above solid resistance at $1,800.00. Bears’ next near-term downside price objective is pushing futures prices below solid technical support at the November low of $1,618.30," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures traded between $1,770.20 and $1,791.80. They rose 0.4% on Monday, for their highest finish since Aug. 16.
Silver for December delivery dropped 59.5 cents, or 2.7%, to settle at $21.518 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $21.45 and $22.38. They gained 2.1% on Monday, for their best settlement since June. 2.

January platinum fell $10.60, or 1%, to $1,022.40 an ounce, ranging from $1,017 to $1,051.50.
- Palladium for December delivery advanced $38.30, or 1.9%, to $2,078.30 an ounce, trading between $2,018 and $2,113.
