Precious metals moved higher Thursday, posting gains ranging from 1.7% for silver to 2.2% for palladium. Silver’s increase was its third in a row.
Gold for June delivery rose $30.50, or 1.8%, to settle at $1,766.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"A massive amount of inflation is certainly on the horizon and gold is just the best asset to own as we start to see what I would consider some historic levels of inflation," Reuters quoted Jeffrey Sica, founder of Circle Squared Alternative Investments.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,734.40 to a high of $1,770.60. They moved down 0.7% on Wednesday, they gained 0.9% on Tuesday, and they fell 0.7% on Monday.
Silver for May delivery tacked on 44 cents to settle at $25.964 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $25.38 and $26.07. They climbed 0.4% on Wednesday, they surged 2.3% on Tuesday, and they lost 1.8% on Monday.
In other precious metals futures prices Thursday:
July platinum added $22.80, or 1.9%, to $1,200.20 an ounce, ranging from $1,172.60 to $1,207.20.
- Palladium for June delivery added $60 to $2,739.40 an ounce, trading between $2,685 and $2,770.
