Precious metals gained together for a second session in a row Tuesday. Gold and silver finished at one-week highs.
Gold for December delivery settled up $17.90, or 1%, to $1,910.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the highest since last Tuesday, Oct. 27.
"The sole driver behind gold prices is the high likelihood that there is going to be chaos surrounding the U.S. elections, from the predictions of not having a president by tonight," Reuters quoted Jeffrey Sica, founder of Circle Squared Alternative Investments.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,887.60 to a high of $1,912.20. They gained 0.7% on Monday.
Silver for December delivery added 30.1 cents, or 1.3%, to settle at $24.334. The close was also silver’s highest since Oct. 27. Silver futures traded between $23.97 and $24.49. They advanced 1.6% on Monday.

January platinum rose $15.50, or 1.8%, to $875 an ounce, ranging from $858.10 to $886.60.
- Palladium for December delivery jumped $77.40, or 3.5%, to $2,297.80 an ounce, trading between $2,223.90 and $2,309.70.
London Precious Metals Prices (LBMA)
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold added $18.40, or 1%, to $1,908.30 an ounce.
- Silver rose 19.5 cents, or 0.8%, to $24.17 an ounce.
US Mint Bullion Sales in 2020
United States Mint bullion sales increased Tuesday by 1,653,000 ounces in silver coins and 8,500 ounces in gold coins.
