Silver, platinum and palladium futures climbed Tuesday. Gold, meanwhile, edged lower for a third session in a row.
Gold for December delivery dipped 50 cents, or 0.03%, to settle at $1,503.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The close was the lowest since last Tuesday, Oct. 1.
"There are several geopolitical matters at work that have traders and investors worldwide in a bit of a risk-averse mood," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a daily research note.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,492.10 to a high of $1,514.30. They declined 0.6% on Monday.
Silver for December delivery gained 16 cents, or 0.9%, to settle at $17.70 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $17.30 and $17.86. They fell 0.5% on Monday.
In other precious metals futures prices Tuesday:
January platinum rose $1.80, or 0.2%, to $890.10 an ounce, ranging from $881.50 to $897.70.
- Palladium for December delivery gained $4.40, or 0.3%, $1,650.70 an ounce, trading between $1,605 and $1,653.90. On Wednesday, they scored a record settlement of $1,665.50 an ounce.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold added $4.60, or 0.3%, to $1,505.85 an ounce.
- Silver added 13 cents, or 0.8%, to $17.555 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
