Gold futures finished ahead for a second day in a row Wednesday, advancing its streak of gains to ten in eleven sessions.
Gold for August delivery tacked on $5.60, or 0.4%, to settle at $1,336.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Today, global equities are weaker, there is some safe-haven buying, and buying ahead of the U.S. Fed meeting next week," Reuters quoted Bob Haberkorn, senior market strategist at RJO Futures.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,329.80 to a high of $1,342.30. They gained 0.1% on Tuesday and fell 1.3% on Monday. On Friday, they ended at $1,346.10 an ounce for their highest settlement since Feb. 20.
Silver for July delivery added 1.3 cents, or nearly 0.1%, to close at $14.753 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $14.71 and $14.86. They moved up 0.7% on Tuesday and tumbled 2.6% on Monday.
In PGM futures on Wednesday:
July platinum declined $3.80, or 0.5% to $810.50 an ounce, ranging from $808.40 to $820.
- Palladium for September delivery finished up $16.40, or 1.2%, to $1,405.60 an ounce, trading between $1,381.60 and $1,409.20.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Tuesday PM to Wednesday PM:
- Gold rose $8.05, or 0.6%, to $1,332.35 an ounce.
- Silver added 9.5 cents, or 0.7%, to $14.79 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
