Precious metals futures ended mixed Monday with gold, silver and palladium climbing and platinum falling.
Gold for June delivery added $1.60, or 0.1%, to settle at $1,277.30 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"The bulls are trying to ‘right the ship’ following the strong selling pressure seen late last week. Working in the precious metals bulls’ favor to start the trading week are a slightly lower U.S. dollar index and weaker U.S. stock index prices," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a report.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,273.30 and $1,278.70. They lost 0.9% last week, ending Friday at their lowest point since May 2.
Silver for July delivery tacked on 5.7 cents, or 0.4%, to close at $14.445 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $14.35 and $14.46. They dropped 2.7% last week.
