Precious metals futures moved narrowly Thursday with all but palladium sliding slightly. Gold edged down yet neared its 2018 low of $1,224 an ounce.
Gold for August delivery declined $6.10, or 0.5%, to settle at $1,225.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"The rise is partially to do with the news that Trump and the EU called a ceasefire on the trade war and a halt on auto tariffs," Reuters quoted Natixis precious metals analyst Bernard Dahdah.
"But gold has been dropping since April so there is a bigger story behind this fall rather than just the EU-US story at the moment."
Gold futures traded from a low of $1,224.30 to a high of $1,235.30. They rose 0.5% on Wednesday, dipped less than 0.1% on Tuesday, and declined 0.5% on Monday.
