The Royal Canadian Mint this month introduced gold and silver collector coins that are curved and shaped like a football.

Touted as yet another Mint first, the two coins share the same designs and likeness, including their shape and leather-like appearance. Combined with unique engraving techniques, the coins mirror the features of a modern Canadian football.
Both are minted to collector proof quality in an ounce of 99.99% pure silver or gold, with faces values of $25 for the silver coin and $200 for the gold coin.

Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II appears on obverses (heads side) along with inscriptions of CANADA, ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA.

I actually thinking about getting one of these, until I notice what was on the other side. Wow, to bad they didn’t use a famous players face.
The Queen is the Canadian football team owner!

Doug Flutie should be on it. The greatest.
I would buy this if it was from the US Mint. But then the US Mint could screw it up some how in one way or another. I didn’t know football was that important up north?
An expensive silver metal football with a high mintage. Pass!

Compared to the insanely high mintages of the us mint on majority of the coins and products it seems to be a very very low mintage for these. Just saying.
Only 550 gold coins ever made? Wow. Given the popularity of football this will be in big demand. Will sell out and be a rare coin in future. This GOLD coin is a big big deal.
