Science fiction, the 150th anniversary of a classic novel, a fairy-tale princess, kangaroos, and koalas are some of the subjects featured on new coins for July from the Perth Mint of Australia.
More information on these and other collectible releases for the month follows.
2015 Mini Koala 0.5g Gold Coin
The Perth Mint continues its relatively new tradition of offering an affordable gold koala strike with the release of the 2015 Mini Koala Gold Coin, the third such annual issue. Seen on the reverse is a single koala portrayed in a sitting position.
Each coin is composed of 0.5 grams of 99.99% pure gold to a diameter of 11.60 millimeters, which is about the size of a button. The coin is protected inside an acrylic capsule attached to a wallet-sized presentation card.
150th Anniversary of Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland Coins
Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Lewis Carrol classic, the Perth Mint has issued two Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland coins. The first is a one-ounce silver proof coin showcasing Alice, the Cheshire cat and the White Rabbit.
The second, and perhaps more intriguing, is the two-ounce Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Silver Antiqued Clock Coin. Featured in the center of the coin is a working quartz movement clock, as we wrote about earlier.
Mintage for the antiqued clock coin is set at 2,500 with 5,000 of the colored coins available.
2015 $100 Wedge-Tailed Eagle High Relief Gold and Silver Coins
Australia’s largest bird of prey is in enhanced detail on new 2015 Wedge-Tailed Eagle High Relief Gold and Silver Coins. The design, by former United States Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, was first unveiled by the Perth Mint last year and shows the bird as it is about to land on a tree branch.
Mintage for the high relief gold coin is set at 1,000 while the high relief silver is limited to 10,000. Each one-ounce coin ships in a Perth Mint display case along with an illustrated shipper that depicts the same eagle design as found on the coins within.
2015 Australian Kangaroo Silver Proof High Relief Coin
Struck from one-ounce of 99.9% pure silver, the 2015 Australian Kangaroo Silver Proof High Relief Coin offers the likeness of a single adult kangaroo as it hops across a traditional Australian landscape at dusk. The image is shown in high relief for enhanced detail.
Issue limit for the coin is capped at 19,000 with another 1,000 reserved for other product releases. Specifications include a gross weight of 31.135 grams, a diameter of 32.60 millimeters and a thickness of 6.00 millimeters.
2015 Star Trek Deep Space Nine Silver Coins
As we wrote about earlier, colorized coins commemorating the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine are the newest issues in officially licensed Star Trek coins.
One coin offers a likeness of the Deep Space 9 space station while the other portrays Captain Benjamin Sisko.
The coins are available individually or as part of a two-coin set. The product limit for the set is 1,500 while the coins have mintages of 5,000.
2015 Sunburnt Country I Love Her Jewel Sea Silver Rectangle Coin
For the last several months, the Perth Mint has been paying tribute to Dorothea Mackellar’s My Country poem in a series of rectangular silver coins. This newest issue portrays a colored design emblematic of the Jewel Sea.
Issue limit for the individual coin is 4,250 with 750 reserved for other product options. Each coin ships in a clear latex display case with black frame.
2015 Disney Princess Jasmine Gold and Silver Coins
Another series continuation from the Perth Mint highlights princesses from the Disney portfolio with the most recent issue portraying Jasmine from the animated film Aladdin. The one-ounce 2015 Princess Jasmine gold and silver coins both show the same basic likeness of the princess.
Mintage for the 2015 $25 Jasmine gold coin is capped at 1,000. The 2015 $2 Jasmine silver coin is limited to 10,000.
Previous program issues portrayed Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel and Belle. Each is Niue Legal Tender.
2015 Australian Outback Silver Colored Coin Collection
Showcasing three of Australia’s most iconic creatures, the Mint has issued its 2015 Australian Outback 1/2 oz Silver Colored Coin Collection.
Appearing on reverses of three silver coins are colorized designs showcasing a kookaburra, a kangaroo and a koala. This limited issue collection is capped at 2,000 sets.
100 Years of Commonwealth Management of Lighthouses Stamp and Coin Cover
Featuring an uncirculated bronze $1 coin and four official Australia Post 70c stamps is the Perth Mint’s 100 Years of Commonwealth Management of Lighthouses Stamp and Coin Cover.
The coin’s reverse depicts a lighthouse set on a rocky cliff with waves lapping beneath it. From the lighthouse, a beam of light shines into the night sky. The stamps are postmarked for the first day of issue. They feature four historic and architecturally diverse Australian lighthouses: Cape Byron, New South Wales (1901); Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia (1896); North Reef, Queensland (1878); and Tasman Island, Tasmania (1906).
The stamp and coin cover is limited to 10,000.
