A new string of numismatic products debut for May from the Perth Mint of Australia, including a new mini gold coin series and the second issues of a precious metal program dedicated to the treasures of the world.
Joining these May releases, the 100th Anniversary of the Australia Red Cross is celebrated on a new silver proof coin, the Australian Megafauna series expands with the Thylacoleo silver coin and A.B. "Banjo" Paterson is commemorated with a stamp and coin cover set.

2014 Mini Kookaburra 0.5g Gold Coin
Expanding on the popularity of similar Mini Roo and Mini Koala gold coins, the Perth Mint’s "button-sized" 2014 Mini Kookaburra 0.5g Gold Coin is now available. Each is composed of 0.5 grams of 99.99% pure gold and features the likeness of a kookaburra as designed by Perth Mint artist Natasha Muhl.
This coin has a diameter of 11.60 mm with a thickness of 0.70 mm. Each is placed in a protective acrylic capsule that is attached to a wallet-sized presentation card. Mintage of the Mini Kookaburra gold coin is unlimited with the final number sold determined at the end of production. Pricing is listed initially as AUS $54.09, or US $50.21.
2014 Australian Treasures of the World Locket Coins
New gold and silver proof coins issued under the Perth Mint’s Treasures of the World series celebrate Australia’s abundance of gold. A pocket of at least 0.2 grams of gold is encased in a transparent locket integrated into each coin.
Buyers can choose from a one ounce 2014 Australian Treasures of the World Gold Locket Coin with a mintage of 750, or a one ounce 2014 Australian Treasures of the World Silver Locket Coin with a larger mintage of 7,500. The design found on the reverse of each is similar and offers a traditional outback image with a kangaroo and native flora.
These coins are housed in a Perth Mint display case with a timber lid and an illustrated shipper. Initial pricing for the gold coin is AUS $2,513.64, or US $2,333.33, with the silver coin offered for AUS $107.73, or US $99.81.
2014 100th Anniversary of Australian Red Cross Silver Proof Coin
The Perth Mint celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Australian Red Cross with a new one ounce silver proof coin. This coin is composed of 99.9% pure silver and offers a series of black and white images on the reverse that is representative of the broad mission of the Australian Red Cross.
These images are joined by the likeness of a World War I nurse and the Australian Red Cross logo. The mintage is limited to 5,000 with a price of AUS $90, or US $83.38.
2014 Australian Megafauna Thylacoleo Silver Proof Coin
The 2014 Thylacoleo 1 oz Silver Proof Coin is presented as the fourth release in a series dedicated to Australian Megafauna. Shown on the reverse is the likeness of a thylacoleo as designed by world-renowned freelance artist Peter Trusler.
Mintage of the megafauna issue is limited to 6,500. Each is struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver.
Pricing is established at AUS $90, or US $83.38.
2014 150th Anniversary of A.B. "Banjo" Paterson Stamp and Coin Cover
In affiliation with the Australia Post, the Perth Mint has also released the 150th Anniversary of A.B. "Banjo" Paterson Stamp and Coin Cover. The set is shipped in an attractive presentation envelope.
A.B. "Banjo" Paterson is a well-known figure from Australian history. He is probably best remembered as an Australian bush poet, but also served as a solicitor, journalist, war correspondent, soldier and author. The Perth Mint previously released Banjo Patterson coins in gold and silver.
The stamp and coin cover feature an unlimited mintage and sells for AUS $14.50, or US $13.43.
