Medal of Honor $5 Gold and Silver Dollar

Ending coin news of the week surrounded the newly issued 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins. The US Mint on Friday, February 25, 2011, released the gold and silver dollar commemoratives in both collector proof and uncirculated qualities. Introductory pricing for each will be available until March 28, 2011.

The coins honor the establishment of the medal which was first authorized by Congress for the Navy in 1861. Surcharges of $35 per gold coin and $10 per silver dollar will go to the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation. The issues are the second and final commemoratives for 2011.
