Silver futures ended at their lowest level since Jan. 15, 2016

Gold, silver and platinum futures closed down Tuesday for a fourth session in a row while palladium broke its streak of three straight session slides. Silver marked its weakest finish since early 2016.

Gold for December delivery declined $2.10, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,201.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the lowest since Oct. 10.

"Precious metals were somewhat supported when the U.S. dollar index sold off today, on a corrective pullback after hitting a 1.5-year high on Monday," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a report. "However, the steep sell off in crude oil recently is a bearish outside market working against the metals."

Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,196.60 to a high of $1,205.50. They shed 0.4% on Monday.

Silver for December delivery fell 3.4 cents, or 0.2%, to end at $13.977 an ounce. The settlement was the lowest since Jan. 15, 2016 when the precious metal ended at $13.896 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $13.92 and $14.11. They lost 0.9% on Monday.
