The United States Mint today, March 17, released five collectible products featuring varying sizes and quantities of 2016-W American Eagle Gold Proof Coins.

2016-W Proof American Gold Eagles and 4-coin set

2016-W Proof American Gold Eagles are available in four sizes and a set with each size

American Gold Eagles are produced in 1 oz., 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz. and 1/10 oz. sizes with corresponding denominations of $50, $25, $10 and $5. Product choices include each coin size and a four-coin set that has them all.

Struck for coin collectors and unlike the bullion versions made for investors, these proofs have frosted designs with mirror-like fields and they bear ‘W’ mint marks from West Point Mint. Released annually since 1986, Gold Eagles share the same designs and 22-karat gold composition.

Opening Prices

Early pricing for the proofs and four-coin set follow.

Debut Prices
2016-W Proof Gold Eagles (1 oz) $1,560.00
2016-W Proof Gold Eagles (1/2 oz) $795.00

2016-W Proof Gold Eagles (1/10 oz) $175.00

If the average weekly price of gold moves up or down into another cost range, the price of the product will go up or down by as much as $50 for every ounce of gold content.

Coin Designs and Specifications

On their obverse or heads side, American Gold Eagles feature Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ image of Liberty with flowing hair holding a lit torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. A small image of the U.S. Capitol building appears behind Liberty along with stretching rays of sunshine. Surrounding the design are 50 stars and inscriptions of LIBERTY, 2016 and the ‘W’ mint mark.

Christopher Williams –

The Mint sold the sets they had at the warehouse & expect more in at a later date. I guess the Numismatic Devil Mike Mezack got them all & will be hawking them on HSN very soon as “sold out on first day of issue!” I can hear that carnival barker voice now. Lol
