The United States Mint has published the debuting sales figures for three products that were introduced last week — the Mount Hood Quarter Three-Coin Set, the 2011 Uncirculated Gold Eagle, and the Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins.
The Uncirculated Gold Eagle launched Thursday, and is likely the product many collectors are most interested in given its two-year absence from the Mint’s numismatic portfolio. Its debut sales were 1,098 as of Monday, which was slower than perhaps expected. Sales were pressured no doubt by an opening price that was much higher than any past issue and a release date that surrounded three straight days of falling gold prices. Many potential buyers may have decided to wait on the sidelines for gold to stabilize, speculating perhaps that price cuts were eminent for all US Mint numismatic gold coins.
Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins were also issued Thursday. Their debut sales came in weaker than recent issues, as highlighted in the following table:

Split across by type, buyers ordered 1,331 proof and 777 uncirculated Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins through to Sunday.
2011 Gold Eagle Proof Coins slowed, likely hurt by the aforementioned direction of gold and the coins’ recently increased prices. Plus, many buyers who wanted them have already placed their orders since the 24-karat gold coins were released on April 21.

The Mount Hood Quarter Three-Coin Set was released on Wednesday, May 4. By Sunday, May 8, buyers picked up 11,282, making it the third best debut in the series. Past openings include Grand Canyon at 12,418; Hot Springs at 10,684; Yellowstone at 11,115; and Yosemite at 11,441.
The three newly issued America the Beautiful 5 ounce Silver Coins are extremely close to sellouts. The collector Hot Springs National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin launched on April 28. 26,866 of 27,000 have sold as of Sunday. The investment-grade Gettysburg and Glacier America the Beautiful 5 ounce Silver Bullion Coins went on sale Monday, April 25. The United States Mint’s Authorized Purchasers (AP’s) ordered 250,400 of the available 256,000 as of Tuesday.
