2010 US Mint Uncirculated Sets Open to Sales Topping 200,000

2010 US Mint SetSales of the 2010 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set® opened to solid demand, as coin collectors rushed to place their orders.

The annual U.S. Mint product is typically the second most popular set with coin collectors — trailing only the clad proof sets.

The satin finish, uncirculated 28-coin set went on sale Thursday, July 15. The 2010 Mint Set lived up to its reputation, racing out of the gate with 200,764 orders in four days.

Debuting sales did ease as compared to the most recent 2009-dated set which was priced $4 lower and contained 8 more coins, including the newly designed pennies that celebrated the bicentennial birth of Lincoln. However, the 2009 Mint Set also launched during a time of year when collectors are much more active in buying coins.

As the following chart of recent sales suggests, sets launched during summer tend to start slower.

Next week’s sales figures should reflect a sizable bump. The clad 2010 Proof Sets go on sale Thursday, July 22. With such a close release between the uncirculated and clad sets, a sizable number of collectors are likely holding onto their money until they can order both sets at once, reducing ordering hassles, saving $4.95 in shipping costs, and cutting a trip to their P.O. Box.
