US Government Prints 617.6 Million Notes Worth $17.8 Billion - April

BEP Production FiguresThe same amount of banknotes were produced by the US government in April as in March, but the total value of those notes was less, according to Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) figures released Thursday.

In comparing the months, the agency printed more $1s and the same number of $5s. However, fewer $20s, $100’s, and no $10s or $50s were printed.

In total, 617,600,000 banknotes were produced last month valued at $17,785,600,000. In contrast, the BEP printed 617.6 M notes worth $22.1 billion in February.

Spread across the 30 days in March, the BEP averaged some 20.6 million notes per day with a total daily value of about $593 million.

The agency also produced 640,000 $1 star notes (total of these not in table below). Star notes are replacements for misprinted notes or certain serial numbers, like 000 000 000. These notes are generally more desirable to collectors as they are rarer.
