New York gold futures marked a second straight positive day on Monday by gaining 1.7 percent. Silver and platinum fell 1.1 and 0.6 percent, respectively. After last week’s 11 percent drop, crude continued downward losing 1.4 percent.
December oil fell 93 cents to close at $63.22 per barrel, marking its lowest level since May of 2007.
December silver fell 10 cent to close at $9.20 an ounce.
January platinum lost $5.10 to end at $797.20 an ounce. The precious metal is now at a level not seen since November of 2003 and is quickly approaching the price of gold.
Gold for December gained $12.60 to settle at $742.90 an ounce. Although it has climbed for two consecutive days, the yellow metal has fallen in ten out of the past twelve sessions and lost 7.3 percent last week.

Ottawa, Ontario, – On the eve of Remembrance Day commemorations and the 90th anniversary of the Armistice, the Royal Canadian Mint, in association with the Royal Canadian Legion, is proud to issue its latest coloured circulation coin which features the iconic red poppy, Canada’s flower of remembrance.
The Mint will produce up to 11 million 25-cent coloured poppy coins, which will enter into circulation beginning today and will be distributed exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix locations from coast to coast. Canadians are also encouraged to look for this special coin in their change.

The United States Mint 2008 Hawaii Official First Day Coin Cover went on sale Monday for the price of $14.95, plus $4.95 for standard shipping and handling.
The 35,000 limited edition covers are the 50th and final in the series and include two Hawaii state quarters with reverse designs featuring monarch King Kamehameha I stretching his hand toward the eight major Hawaiian Islands. Inscriptions include the state motto "UA MAU KE EA O KA ‘AINA I KA PONO" ("The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness"), "Hawaii" and "1959," which is the year Hawaii was admitted into the Union.
King Kamehameha I is a revered figure in Hawaiian history. While maintaining the native practices and traditional ways of island life, he brought about change yet still unified the governance of the Hawaiian Islands into one kingdom in the early 1800s.
